You're all wrong! The answer is.....

    string! :D

Take some string, and coil it firmly (but not too tightly) around the finger below the ring. Wait for 30 seconds or so. Unravel the string, then slide the ring down the squashed bit of your finger. Repeat if necessary, until it's free.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • I know the answer to this!!!

Dental floss, pull off a very very long piece. Push one end under the ring and hold against your palm with your thumb.
Wrap the rest around your finger as tight as you can bear all the way to the knuckle, try not to leave any gaps as they will bulge.
When you've done this grab the first piece (that was against the palm) and start to unwrap, the ring will start to move up with until eventually the ring is over your knuckle.

This really works, as I had to do it myself..............

    Hi

I've heard of the thing with string too, but haven't ever been able to properly visualise it. There are more descriptions on this thread:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

Can I just say don't worry about your wife, I'm sure she'll understand that it was an accident. On the other hand if I were her and you were spending so much time on MSE while on your honeymoon, well lets just say that the ring might well be stuck somewhere much more obscure than the wrong finger. ;):p

I accidently put my wedding ring on the wrong finger and i have tried everything. I even tried hemorrhoidal ointment. Nothing works believe me... The reason my ring is stuck is because of my medicine i take daily. I can't get my ring cut off not a option. Please tell me there are other options beside all of the old methods.
  • Spray the ring and your finger with WD40. Then try the string/dental floss thing.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • I've read through this thread and not seen the option we had to go for - the fire brigade! They have lots of specialist equipment and cut off my husbands wedding ring when it got stuck. Obviously then you do have to get it fixed. I shall remember the dental floss idea in case it happens again.

  • The Fire Service may be able to help in this situation but please don't call 999 for it!
Find the admin number on the internet, and offer to go to your local fire station - Some fire engines don't have ring cutters on them, they are left at the station.

    Worth a try though...
The dental floss option, vasaline, butter, washing your hands with lots of soap and cool (but not freezing) water.
    Bump due 22nd September
  • I had to take a ring off a few weeks ago for a scan and couldn't get it off at all! Tried everything and my finger became very painful. In the end i popped into a local jeweller and he cut it off in about 30 seconds. And it was free! He just asked for a donation to charity. :T
