I carry a digital camers and will at any opportunity obtain a photograph of any police vehicle that is breaking the law, some of the police think beause they have a uniform and drive a police car they are above the law, its not normally the traffic officers that break the law but the normal run of the mill bobby. I send the offending picture to the chief constable, and before you say anything I am an ex and my father and grandfather were police officers too.0

Its not the institution of the Police Force that people have a problem with, as there is no doubt they do a good job but some of the officers are horrendous and have awful attitudes - there the ones people hate but just aim it at the police in general! They always seem to be the ones who had no friends at school though dont they!!
I understand ALOT more than I care to let on

Society gets the Police Service it deserves since its staff are drawn from that society.
To critcise the Police is to criticise UK life at the time.
The 70's brought a Police Service identified for noble cause corruption and violence just as the UK headed for mass unemployment, picket line's and inflation.
Now you have a front line Police Service from the Playstation Generation where mobiles, texting, recreational drug use and Ibiza holidays all play a part. Recognise it, yes its the UK in general.
Its not right but neither is society.
Coppers are not call centre staff, one minute it can be a problem between neighbours the next it can be a five month old child brought into casualty dead by its parents with signs of neglect.
There are few worse commentators than retired coppers who are still on a crusade, FDJ100 springs to mind here, often considered a laughing stock by those still serving. Take your pension, clear off and let the new coppers get on with it, I'm sure they'll fathom it out just as you did.
Coppers will be perfect just as soon as the human race is perfect, they shouldn't break the law, they should set an example, but then we all should, can any of the critcis on this post honestly say they have led a perfect life.0 -
It wasn't long ago when a Police officer got away on a technicality in Yorkshire for speeding because he researched on the law and found that the signing wasn't correct, yet other motorist didn't get away with fines in the same place. Now I am a strong supporter of measures to reduce accidents and cut down on speeding, but I do not think it is right for one law for one and a different law for others.

Shrek 101, you are right but if you attend at the Mags or Crown Court you'll find people getting off for technical reasons every day. Its just that its not news if it happens to a plumber or Mr Everyman.

Most people are the same though arent they, if they think they can get away with something, they will do it!
Now i am not saying chatting away on your phone is ok, i think its appalling, but for the amount of every day people that do it, i'm sure that there are less policeman that do it.
I do believe that policeman should be setting an example though.
My sisters husband is a policeman, and i have to say it drives me up the wall how 'good' he is! But that is the type of policeman we want, one which will actually follow the laws we all have to.:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0 -
Police Officers should set an example, but often have less of an impact on peoples lives than footballers, media stars and television. It is they who should set the example as they influence a much greater audience and it is they who should be supported by the Police and the judiciary.
This website if full of people looking to steal an advantage as a result of mispriced goods, internet pricing and stock errors or the incorrect use of money off tokens.
Stones and glass houses springs to mind.0 -
I agree that it may not be newsworthy if the local plumber gets away with it on a technicality, but I doubt in this instance he/she would have found the right information. This officer according to the news at the time had done his research Joe public may not have been able to get it.
I have seen numerous reports over the years of tradesman getting away with a relatively leant fine for drink driving, because there plea is that they will loose there livelihood. Well that's tough because I do not seen why a person who relies on driving should be exempt for a banning order mealy because they would loose there livelihood.
I often see people drive while using mobiles (trademan's often) last year when they changed the law. I managed to get a digital picture of an idiot driving (window cleaner) I reported them to the Police with the picture, they kept me waiting in Police station for 2 hours, awaiting someone to see me. I got the distinct impression they thought it was okay to drive whilst using a mobile phone. This idiot was on my street at the time using the phone, what if my kids happening to be crossing the road, and this moron was paying attention, I dread to think.

I would point out that traffic officers are trained to drive at high speeds - well above 159mph. It is for this reason I don't see the fuss about the officer who was 'caught' speeding at 159mph. He was doing his job - wouldn't you prefer a 3.0 Vectra at the hands of an officer who has tested it to the limit than a high powered vehicle at the hands of someone who has no idea how it handles?
I am currently on the IAM scheme and have come into contact with so many Police drivers. I have no issues with traffic officers travelling at high speed because of the rigorous training they all have to go through.
However, the local bobbies annoy me in that some seem extremely !!!!!! and prefer chatting to each other a lot when driving around - I was in traffic once and there was a panda car opposite a guy on his phone chatting away. It could not have been more obvious! But they didn't notice it. Eejits!0 -
Slightly off topic here but...
The other week we had our local bobby outside school. Alot of rather blind parents drop their kids off at school and as they aren't staying feel it's ok to just pull up on the yellow zig zag lines.
Anyway on this particular day, there was a police van with cctv in it. At least one bobby and 3 other people (I think from the council) There was also one of those screens that show what speed you are going at. Anyway, a car pulled up on the zig zag lines. The bobby just stood and looked at it and carried on chatting. I could not believe it.
What is the point of having these laws ie not using a mobile while driving, don't park on yellow zig zag lines if the bobbies don't do anything to enforce it? By not enforcing it the police are condoning the behaviour.0
