Why? Isn't this illegal? Hasn't he heard of hands free?
The guy was turning right at a busy junction and obviously had to be taking this call as he was happily laughing on the phone.
It makes me so cross when Joe Public uses their phone when driving and can be fined, but I never thought I would see a policeman in his squad car on the phone.
Grrrrrrr

Yes that's certainly true, hope he wasn't doing 159mph & talking on the phone!0 -
I am a police officer.
The law does apply to him and if you reported the details he would be prosecuted.
I have known lots of instances where police drivers have been prosecuted, even for accidents when on emergency calls.
I would be interested to know where this happened.

Doies that mean I can report every single person I see on their phone whilst driving and they'll all be prosecuted too? It is one of those things that winds me up, policeman or not, as it really isn't necessary to use the handset and drive.
It happened in Warwickshire Paul though I'm assuming this kind of incident happens all over the country. Unfortunately I didn't take down any reg and could only make a guess at the time now. Plus couldn't identify the officer in a line up. I'm more of a bargain hunter than observant citizen.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Was stopped by the police for being on my phone..........
.............except I wasn't!!! Him and the other officer did not beleive me! Only when I went through my phone and showed him all my recent calls did he let it go and he didn't apologise either should said "I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, this time" bl**dy cheek! He then checked my whole car as he was after something to get me one, in the end he just give me a producer.2p off is still 2p off!0 -

As a retired Policeman, I hate it when Police Officers do not set a good example. I've got a hands free kit that cost less at Aldi than the price of a fine and I really can't see why others don't have them.

Is it illegal to use your phone to take a picture of someone making a call on their phone? Not even wrong0

not quite the same but i was standing on the street the other day waiting to cross the road when a police car comes down the hill towards me. obviously i stay on the pavement to let them go past.
as they are not indicating i assume they are going straight on (ie past me). suddenly they turn the corner ............. still no indicator.
i catch the drivers eye and shake my head to which he gives me a glare as if to say "who the hell are you to tell me i need to indicate when i turn a corner"
non indicating infuriates me at the best of times (and i dont even drive) but surely a police officer should know better.
