    Bonding means connecting a metal pipe to Earth in your CU.  If  your water pipe is lead, it has to be bonded at least (?) where it enters the house. Your gas  supply pipe can be steel too unless it was replaced recently.

    One of the first things you learn when becoming a gas engineer is that manufactures instructions take precedence.

    It doesn't matter how insignificant you might think this may be but its a fact.

     If the boiler was installed in any way not shown in the Instructions they will void the warranty.

    I see a lot of boilers just plugged into a socket, there is nothing wrong with that as long as its unswitched so it it has to be removed to isolate and the fuse is correct but when it come to faults the Manufactures will hold it against you.

    A switched socket can still be dangerous when switched off because a lot of them only isolate the live

    So if you just turn the boiler off at the switch which a lot of people who don't know would do you still leave a danger in fault conditions

    The boiler should be classed an NCS {not to current standards}

    Many thanks to all the members who have posted on this thread but we have now had the issue resolved.

    It seems that the 'At Risk' notification should have been an 'advisory' one, so we now have our guarantee reinstated.

    The WB customer care representative was very professional and friendly and sorted it out for us.

    Obviously , our family , especially my father (whose health is waning) are relieved although it has been very stressful.

    I still think the original installer is at fault here. I imagine the same issues will get raised the next it's serviced or repaired by someone else to the installer.

    Whatever their good reputation, it looks like they took shortcuts on the original install that will continue to cause issues. I would still personally escalate it to get it resolved, but understand you not wanting to with your father's health.
