The door is now not closing properly - it "bounces" when it hits the floor and starts re-opening. I need to hit the stop button on the wall to catch it at the right moment (which is obviously pretty tricky if you're standing outside the garage!)

From asking around so far, it seems like the control board is the main cause of my problems, particularly in combination with the safety sensor on the door. So I'm thinking that it might be more pragmatic to replace the control board only?
I've just spoken to someone who would be able to fit one made by Link Controls. Has anyone had any experience of this brand?

If the fitter both supplied and fitted the door, isn't your contract with them? And ditto the warranty?

    I don't know.

I think you're right, but TBH the fitter is increasingly looking like a bit of a cowboy (he couldn't get away quickly enough, and didn't seem remotely concerned whether he'd left the door in a working state). I'm not sure I have the patience for a drawn-out dispute with him, particularly if the unit is a bit of a lemon and he probably wouldn't be able to provide a decent long-term solution anyway.
After more than 3 years I suspect that it wouldn't be easy to get much in the way of compensation anyway.

I'm now also wondering whether a move to a sectional door would be a good thing. Are these generally considered to be more reliable than rollers when implemented as electric doors?
Any views/experience of sectional vs roller doors?

    No idea, sorry.
But your current door could just have a minor issue like a faulty limit switch. Or have been installed poorly. It doesn't necessarily make it a poor door.
I suspect that a sectional type, in itself, won't be any better than a roller style; it'll just come down to their individual qualities, and competence of installation.

I have a sectional garage door, it's at least 10 years old. The neighbour had a roller installed a couple of years ago.

It's anecdotal, but mine has never had a blip, and they've had people out on at least 5 occasions.

Downside, less roof space if you want to hang things from the joists.

Really does sound like a “simple” set up issue - The door limits are either not set or set incorrectly.
Have you got the control box manual to set its limits again?
Everything so far and especially the bouncing says to me it doesn’t know when to stop.

And the added bonus - your garage looks like a garage, not an industrial unit. ;) My sectional door has been in 20 years and still works fine.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
