Bedroom Future Heater choices, Dimplex Q Rad....
One bedroom flat, considering replacing old school wall panel type electric heater, can't be far away from Fire Hazard concerns.
Dimplex Wifi Controlled options include...
Dimplex Wifi Controlled options include...
qrad range
500W
750W
before Max 1 1.5 2 kw options.
Cost wise before VAT 319-415
Rather than going 1 or 2kw for 1 bed flat, how can I make decision from 500 or 750w.
thanks

Ive got 1st choices wrong, re consider Dimplex Panel Heater for bedroom.
Maybe 1kw MontereyMFP100E
Almost 243 inc VAT
+ I'll need RF Module
51.95 inc VAT
238 Approx.
Are these easy to request Electrician for swap of existing Heater.

Unless you want all the bells and whistles features of the MFP100E, I would look at something like this which is much lower cost and still has local remote control :
https://www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/p/epmh1000led/electriq-epmh1000led-heater
All electric panel heaters will by or large use the same amount of electricity per kW when running, so paying more won't make much, if any difference to running costs..
Granted the more expensive Dimplex claims it will switch off if it senses an open window and will phase any timed start up to ensure the room is warm at the time you need it. But if it is just for use in a bedroom and you are smart enough to switch it off yourself when a window is opened, then I'd be taking the £300+ saving and going with the low cost option.
In reality, how often would you need the remote control via a phone App to switch on/off the bedroom heater when you aren't at home?
If the existing wiring is in good order and to the correct standard, then it should be an easy job to swap over for any competent electrician.1 -
A few points to consider.* Do you intend to use the bedroom for WFH? That would require a higher output, possibly another Quantum.* How long before you are likely to sell the property; is it your 'forever' home or just for the next few years? Also consider what a future purchaser might want.I'd be inclined to go for a higher output because it's more flexible. Think of it like a kettle. A 3kW one might take two and a half minutes to boil whereas a 500W one would take a quarter of an hour (and waste slightly more heat during that period).A shorter warm-up time also means you might be able to shift a bit more usage to the cheap rate. What's the rating of the existing heater and is adequate for your needs?

@lohr500
I'm going to decline Convection heater as I'll hopefully continue with Dimplex as per Living Room heater.
My mobil App use is in use often inc' Setting Livingroom Times+Temps, I can make use of Dimplex Hub if I add a Bedroom Heater.
Not sure of Wiring condition only confirm existing Heater continues to work every Winter though odour is almost burning status.
I have a choice of Electrician's and I think Ide like to make Heater choice order and arrange de installation re installation.
@Gerry1
Bedroom is night time only- No wfh.
Property Sale -Not at this time, near future very possible.
Trying to save compared to Living Room Heater, 1.25kw
Time use via Winter Heat in bedroom has been from 15mins up-to 1hr approx. per night.
I think up-to 1kw would be very generous for identical sized Rooms.
I had re read cost differences, not a great deal of increases.
Ability to choose Bedroom Heat from App as per Winter conditions could prove to be savings from either room.
thanks

Hi @Dandytf FWIW I'd do exactly what you're suggesting and buy the 1kW Dimplex Monterrey. That's not to disagree with what either @lohr500 or @Gerry1 are saying. There are cheaper options as @lohr500 points out but (a) the Dimplex will give you a more even heat output than a cheapo convector (b) the Dimplex will be much simpler to set up and manage if you're already familiar with the Dimplex app (c) the ability to control the Dimplex heater from the app gives you a degree of future proofing as it's quite possible that the likes of Dimplex will develop smart apps that factor the cost of electricity on time of use tarriffs into the equation when turning the heater on and off. You pays your money and takes your choice - I personally would go for the Dimplex but others might opt for the cheapo convector, nothing wrong with that, each to their ownBuying a bigger heater like @Gerry1 suggests certainly has it's advantage in a room that gets very cold and you want to bring up to temperature very quickly. But the downside is the heat output is less even, so whereas a heater sized to run continuously when the heating demand is at it's maximum may keep the room temperature with, say, 1/2 a degree of the target temperature as it swicthes on and off, a big heater may only keep it within, say, 2 degrees. For a bedroom, my own preference would be for a 1kW heater to ensure a nice, even, controlled temperature. In answer to your specific question, there are sizing calculators for central heating radiators you could use to estimate the heat requirement if you want to based on the room size, number of outside walls and windows, etc. But 1kW sounds like a safe bet to me. It should be a very straightforward job for an electrician to wire it in. Probably something you could DIY if you wanted to but personally I'd get an electrician in just to check the state of the exisiting wiring etc.1

I don't think this uses Bricks maybe option to compare to Monterey Panel heater- strictly bedroom Winter Use >1-2hrs per night.

I still think if all you need is 1 to 2 hours heat a night in a small bedroom with the possibility of selling the flat in the not too distant future, then you should go down the low cost route of a half decent panel heater. Why over complicate it with wi-fi hubs and all the bells and whistles?1

I am choosing new Heater after some years in this property, hopefully Heaters that offer some convenience and tame my tech hobbies.

Will you be buying on credit, or cash? It doesnt make a difference to the heater of course, but changes the payback on any energy savings. At the extreme there's a difference between foregoing say 3% savings interest, or being liable to say 30% APR on a credit card.1
