No Volte or WiFi Calling on Sky Mobile

I have been with Sky Mobile (SIM only) for a few years. After the issues they had last month I got a 1pMobile payg SIM as back up and also to try out the EE signal. With 1p I can get Volte and phone calls over 4g when I've tried them are a huge improvement over ones made with Sky. Wifi calling isn't an option either and is with 1p, I presumed that Sky just didn't offer these but looking online they do, is there any reason I can't get this via them? My phone is a Motorola G82, bought sim free elsewhere and not from Sky, is it because of this? All phone settings are on for 4g calling. I'm happy to move to 1p/EE for this but it will cost me slightly more a month so easier if I can get via Sky for now.

Sky do not appear to support WiFi calling on Motorola phones.

I had exactly the same issues, first with O2, then with Sky Mobile.  Neither had any luck getting it to work on my Samsung A3.

Then O2 did something to the only mast that served us resulting in no signal at our house (it was only a weak signal before)  I reported it as a fault, but even weeks later when they claimed the fault was fixed I still had no signal so my phone became useless at home.

That's when i ordered a 1P mobile SIM and instantly with that in, wifi calling and VOLTE worked.

So I suggest you port your number to 1P and ditch Sky Mobile.  In my case because of the loss of signal at home, they released me from my contract so I could leave early.

It depends on your usage, but I am now paying half what I used to pay to Sky for my 1P usage.

... is there any reason I can't get this (VoLTE and WiFi calling) via them?...

I've edited your post for brevity, but in direct answer to your question (and echoing the points made above) the reason you can't get them via Sky Mobile is because Sky whitelist the services mentioned for 'supported handsets'. Meaning that, while your handset may well support either or both, unless Sky whitelist your handset you're not going to get either from them.
Additionally there does appear to be an issue with the O2 network and MVNOs, which can best be described by the experience I've had with my Pixel 6a and VoLTE, WiFi calling and 5G, all in the same locations:
Sky Mobile; VoLTE - no, WiFi calling - no, 5G - no.
    O2 contract; VoLTE - yes, WiFi calling - yes, 5G - yes.
    LycaMobile; VoLTE/WiFi calling - N/A, 5G - no.

Strikes me as people wanting champagne for lemonade money

I don't think wanting wifi calling if you live in an area with a poor mobile signal can reasonably be described as wanting champagne for lemonade money. Some operators make it their life's work to make it difficult. Does your phone get wifi calling? Did you buy it from the company? Is the list of supported phones kept up to date? Can you even find out?

That might be true, but my phone was originally supplied by O2.  It was passed to me by a relative upgrading.  So please explain why a phone that O2 supplied, was not on the whitelist?

That's really a question for O2, but I can say from a relatives experience that some O2 supplied phones are not compatible with VoLTE or VoWIFI on O2.

There can only be two reasons for this. Either O2 haven't whitlisted those handsets and/or they don't have the correct settings to be able to switch on support on the handset

My guess, and it's only  guess, because they didn't allow PAYG phones to use VoLTE or VoWIFI then they don't support lower model handsets for these services.

Sky Mobile's whitelist? I've no idea, other than it being related to Sky having their own setup for 4G calling and WiFi calling (that's how Sky offered SMS over Wi-Fi before O2 did, on 'supported' handsets), but either way according to https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-device-capability the Samsung A3 isn't on it so isn't surprising it wouldn't work with them.
As for why it wouldn't work on O2 - pass.

I wouldn't necessarily says it's the networks fault for the mess of VoLTE/Wifi Calling as the IMS stuff involved is very complicated. I'd put the blame more on the Android platform. You don't get these problems with iPhones.

I ported across to 1pmobile on Wednesday. Despite renewing my contract with Sky in February I had a no exit fee so was able to leave. The EE network is faster and as I don't use a landline 4g calling (or WiFi if ever needed) is great to have and a noticeable improvement. I don't think I'll ever tie myself into a SIM only contract again, I like the freedom of a 30 day rolling provider.
