I've just made some! Instead of melting a bar of chocolate I used butter, sugar, golden syrup (about 3 tablespoons of each?? maybe a bit less, didn't measure it) and a tablespoon of cocoa. Heat in a pan til the sugar dissolves & it is all blended then throw in the rice krispies & stir well to coat. This made 12 - spoon the mixture into bun cases & chill in the fridge.

I use 1tblsp syrup, 1 level tblsp cocoa, 1oz butter and 1tblsp sugar, to 7tblsp cornflakes or rice crispies.

You can make the chocolate taste stronger this way if you wish.

  • Mars Bar Cake....

Chop up several Mars bars into thin slices, bung a dod of butter and a tablespoon of golden syrup in a bowl over hot water along with the sliced Mars bars bits.

Stir until it looks like the dogs dinner and is all melted then take off the heat and stir in enough cornflakes or rice crispies until they are all covered.

I use paper cake cases rather than spread into a baking tin or similar but you can smooth into a tin and then coat with melted chocolate but if you are using Mars bars it really is choclatey enough.

    :)

OH has given up drinking (!) and seems to be compensating by eating everything in sight. He has expressed a hankering for cornflake cakes. I have vague ideas of chucking the following in a pan, melting it and bunging in bun cases:

Value cornflakes (OR, Value coco pops? Got both)
    Golden syrup
    Butter
    Aldi milk chocolate

Any suggestions as to how to make them scrummy? Do I really need to measure or should I just free-style and see what happens?

When I make this sort of thing, I just bung it in & hope for the best & it's always turned out fine.

    Hi there...

Whenever I make these I vary them by throwing in some chopped nuts, have made them with mini marshmallows in and at easter we use shredded wheat to make them looks more like nests!!!

I don't usually put butter in mine though... just cereal, chocolate and Golden Syrup.

Have also made them then dipped them in white chocolate... yummy!

    Hi Mrs A,

Theres an older thread with lots of ideas that should help. I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

melt butter, add chocolate & golden syrup. Pour over cornflakes (or rice crispies). Put into cake cases.

    Refridgerate.

    Thanks folks.

Just finished making mine using the "freestyle" method. They look great, though I reckon I've put on half a stone just making them...
