MELT CHOCOLATE IN THE MICROVAVE OVEN > Back to Top <
Chocolate that is overheated may scorch, lose flavor and turn coarse and grainy. Here's a good tip for melting chocolate in your microwave:
Place coarsely chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe container and microwave at MEDIUM (50 percent power) for 1-1/2 to 4 minutes, until the chocolate turns shiny. Between each minute remove chocolate from the microwave and stir. repeat until completely melted. Because of their milk proteins, they need to be stirred sooner than dark chocolate. (If overheated, these chocolates may become grainy.)
So, I suppose if you just keep going with the blasting in the microwave and stirring it well in between you should get there in the end.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
Can anyone let me know the easiest way to make Crispy cakes?
I have either cornflakes or rice crispies, which are best?
Please can anyone let me know ingredients and measurements etc.
Thanks0 -
I prefer rice krispies (don't forget you can add a few raisins or chopped cherries too) Don't have an exact recipe as such. But you will need chocolate and rice krispies and paper cases :rotfl: Made them so often its just a matter of judgement now. Try a couple of bars of your favourite chocolate (prob about 350g - 500g) and just keep adding rice krispies until the chocolate has been absorbed.0

Try using melted mars bars instead of just chocolate. Yummy Yummy. But very calorific, so don't eat too many or you won't fit into your party frock at Christmas.0

That is fantastic, thanks, I was assuming I needed golden syrup or something like that.
Sounds better by the second!0 -
Oh no cornflakes are better! No measurements either, just use a familysize dairy milk or equivalent (DO NOT use "cooking chocolate" it's not actually proper chocolate). Melt in a basin over a pan of simmering water- don't let the basin touch the water. Then remove from the heat and gradually add your cornflakes (or rice krispies) until all the chocolate is used up. Put into paper cases and allow to cool and harden!
By the way- it's obligatory to lick the bowl out after...0 -
I use Tesco milk choc (not value as it didnt melt one time i used it) and heat it on medium in the microwave for 20-30s bursts, stirring in between. Then poor in enough rice pops, more if you want to stretch it, less if you dont want too many rice pops on the carpet;) and spoon into cake cases.
I also make ones using raisins and oats instead of rice pops, which are great for lunchboxes. I went through a phase of trying everything, if it was covered in choc the kids would eat it, bran flakes, fruit n fibre, muesli etc, but you've got to watch your teeth on the banana chips, they go like rocks lol:eek:0 -
Mmmm - I found (in the days when I used to make such scrumptious treats) - that either going with the mars bar idea or mixing in some marshmallows with the chocolate gives you a chewier, less brittle result! (have made some Teeth-Breakers in my time!!):rotfl:
Value choc is fine - any other additions - fruit, nuts, chopped (unmelted) choc - anything you like that is sweet (Twiglets don't work, neither do Pork scratchings.......)
Good luck!!"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

Personally I prefer the dark cooking chocolate for my cornflake cakes.I found using cadburys chocky far too sweet,plus I dont like to share it with the kids.
I`m gunna try them with melted mars bars,that sounds lovely.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Personal favourite is rice crispies cake, as they tend to make a more spherical shape suitable for the cases. The Cornflakes can look and be a bit messy.
Both taste fab however, and its milk chocolate for me all the way.I had a plan..........its here somewhere.0
