I have manual pressure cookers and an electric one. I prefer using the manual ones as I find them very versatile, however, the big advantage with electric PCs is that you can preset them and leave them to cook. They will release the pressure after the set time. With a manual PC you have to be present, both to adjust the heat and turn off the heat source.

Interesting stuff everyone - I wasn't aware of the electric pressure cookers (reasonable price too).
Yes I do see good value dried and tinned beans in L!dl. I might (have) bought some extra grains/soup today. 😁
I haven't seen the supermarket so busy for a while - like pre-holiday shoppers. 🤔 Reasonably well stocked in store.

Although the prices at the till have definitely increased... 😕

@rceebear There will be people more qualified to talk pressure cookers than me, but I got a small one (single household) and wish I had gone bigger. I think you have to leave a third unfilled (or is it only fill to a third - can't remember) so less cooking capacity than you think. I have used mine and still worry about being in the same room ;)

Always been scared of pressure cookers since my mother's exploded when she was cooking beetroot.I know they are better now but I' m still nervous.

It was exploding rice pudding that put me off them!😅

I use a manual pressure cooker regularly. The L!dl one is actually quite good value. I mainly use mine to process dried beans. I batch cook them and freeze the excess. Always soak first.
A 6L pressure cooker is the smallest I’d buy. Mine is a 10L pressure cooker. I got the largest I could find because I wanted one for bottling (or “pressure canning” as the Americans call it). Mine holds 3 jars at a time, so processing a large batch is tediously slow.

All this talk of pressure cookers is inspiring me to have another go with the one my Mum passed on to me. It comes with three insert baskets so you can cook three smaller portions of different things the same time. Not sure if the modern ones do that, but a feature worth looking out for if you’re cooking for a small household.
Thanks for all the inspiring comments on here. I mostly lurk - I think this is the first time I’ve posted in about the last five years.
