2 year sim from RWG

I have always had PAYG phones but have just received an e mail offering either a 1year sim plan of 250 mins, 250 texts and 2 mb of data for £20 or a 2 year plan for same amount of usage for £35. These are a 1 off charge not monthly. I am an absolutely minimal user of either phone calls or data on the mobile network but this seems to be an absolute bargain and I probably would use my phone a bit more than I do using PAYG. Any thoughts appreciated from others. Would 250 mb per month be a good deal at £35 for 2 years? Seems like a great deal for a low user.
That is equivalent to £1:50 for 2 years which seems like a bargain.

Hi, i think the deal is 2gb pm.
To be honest I managed pretty well with their 750mb plan for 6 months. At the moment my phone is struggling to find my home WiFi signal, that is the only reason I am using more.
The plan is also available with eu roaming for £45.2 -
For comparison 1pmobile do 1 year of unlimited uk calls and texts but only 250mb of data for £36.
I know which one I would choose if 250 mins pm is enough.0 -
Yes, for sure I meant 2 GB!I amended the original post as I did the maths, I’m not great at maths either, but it looks as though the 2 year plan works out at the equivalent of £1:50 per month. Bargain. My only concern being that if I do something stupid like I just did last week on holiday I could loose the whole £35 by not disconnecting a call or something. I am not awfully phone savvy but i do need to have one. I have wi fi at home but sometimes it would be good to just use data while out and about. I dont need Roaming as never go abroad now. Insurance is too expensive for oldies.0

I wouldn’t use the minutes and texts for sure but I would browse the internet a bit more.

I use the two year SIM in my backup phone - I o a lot of remote walking and it's useful to keep in my backpack. A great deal.2

Secondly the 2 year sim works a bit differently to your current deal. The money you pay DOES NOT go onto your credit, it is payment for the service. Therefore the worst that can happen is you use up your bundle limit and remaining credit and are out of minutes until the next month.
Since you haven't yet ported your number from asda and have a dual sim phone I would suggest you get another rwg sim, put the plan on it and port your asda number to that, keeping your existing rwg sim as a backup (and using it every three months to keep it active). That would give you an extra 250mb and also reduce the risk of you losing your free bundle (we don't know what rwg's plans are but it is safer to keep the plan active than to try to go back onto it.) The added benefit is that anyone who has got your current rwg number will be able to call you.2 -
That is excellent advice. I didn’t think about it as being a monthly plan even though I would’n’t be paying monthly so worst case scenario I could only lose the monthly allowance. Yes, I know you said you thought it freaky how I lost the one and a half hours of credit on my hols but I told the friend I was calling next day and she looked at her phone and could see that the call had ended after that length of time so I wasn’t imagining it. Hey ho. Everyday is a school day and I won’t do that again. I think your idea of using the second sim slot for another RWG sim is a good one. I have only a small amount left on the Asda sim so wouldn’t lose much and yes I badly want my original number to be kept working for hospital, doctors, calls and messages. Banks have this number and it would be a real palaver to have to contact them to give them a new number for the extra security checks they do when you log on. I will do this after the 1st of June as I am thinking I will get the £5 reinstated on that date. I read it only takes 2 days to get your number ported across but in my previous experience it took almost a week to receive my RWG sim through the post so I will request a new one asap.
Thanks for your sound advice.0 -
Out of interest… if I have 2 RWG sims in the same phone will I easily be able to see which sim card I am checking when ringing 669? At the moment I can see one slot is allocated to RWG and the other to Asda, if they are both RWG sims will it say which sim I am checking the data or minutes left.0

Hi, as I said on the old thread your balance won't go back up to £5. The £5 you topped up gives you a free allowance each month (the equivalent of £2.50 each of calls, texts, and data)
As to the second part your bundle will have a different code to text, so if you text from the wrong sim you will get "no matching bundles". On my Samsung I can select "ask every time" for calling but texts have a default so I have to change it if I want to use my backup sim. It makes sense to set your main number as the default.
Alternatively you could just use one sim and ask rwg to keep your free bundle active in addition to your 2 year plan. It might be possible.0 -
All your advice is much appreciated. I will make a decision and do something within the next week or so. I am really not bothered about staying with Asda so porting my number over to RWG is my priority whether I stick with the original £5 rate or go with the £35 offer I will make a decision soon.0
