All too often we hear people say ‘my meter is working Ok so why do they need to change it’?

My wife had an operation last year for the removal of an extremely rare tumour. As a result, she has to check her BP twice a day. She uses a BP monitor similar to that you would find in any GP surgery. The manufacturer’s recommendation is that monitors are checked once every two years. We sent her 18 month old monitor off for calibration, and she received a new BP monitor by return. My point is that calibrated devices have certification for a reason.
Dolor, I appreciate your advice and input.thanks.
I had to have a new remote reading meter removed from my water meter, not calibrated correct,
    bills sky high.
I also have probably the same BP. Meter as your wife,
omicron, gp’s use them, similar trouble, not correct, needed changing.
my bone of contention is not the meter, but the way of getting me to have one.
The spurious e mail/ s that I now find are generic with others with SP and other companies, at this moment in time cannot be coincidence.
28 years, old, plus ?my meter is, and only now do I get a warning e mail!
12 year old the other poster said his was/ is.
where is the care of duty been for the length of time my meter is supposed to have been, and possibly is out of certification ?
I am not anti anything, am IT literate, well read, and certainly not a Luddite.
I have been on this site donkeys years, giving and taking advice, my free time and expertise as well as others.
I remember certain posters , on this thread ,calling me names, etc, that were themselves the instigators of not getting them fitted post 2011.
They all now seem to all have had a damascene conversion !
I applied for one three years ago from SP, only because, all energy companies demanded one to get the best tariff, but had to cancel due to covid.wife shielded, and still is.
that’s not the reason now, as I have stated, it’s the principle and method they are using.
no one knows if I have over/ underpaid, never see a meter reader now, submit my own, monthly.
I can assure you, paranoid, delusional, objectionable, I am not, I prefer reasoned debate, not insults.
I would never tell anyone what they should or should not do.
    their informed choice
re read this thread, see how many have applied the same,to me, perhaps a couple, the thanks to them from others seem sycophantic, hence my rather derogatory term of woke, for which I apologise to those whom I offended.
    give and take
lies, dammned lies, and stats, I tend to ignore the latter, and those stating them.
    cheers

You are not taking into account that different meters have different lengths of certification. The older meters tend to officially last longer. So you cannot compare your 28 year old meter with someone else's newer one. Older ones tend to have 20 or 30 year certification period while newer ones can have 10 or 15 years. It is quite likely that your meter does need changing.

If electricity meter is at end of certified life and has to be changed do they have to change the gas meter at the same time if this is a none smart meter or can you refuse on the grounds the gas meter is fine?
It makes perfect sense from a cost point of view to change both meters at the same time.

For me more sense as to take a day of work.
