Neighbour hammering a cable to my fence

Hi All,
Earlier today I was in a meeting and started hearing this immense hammering outside. It started getting louder and louder when I realised it was coming form my next door neighbour who got BT in to put a cable to his garden office. The BT Engineer was hammering at my fence attaching this cable. I had to excuse myself from the meeting and confronted the Engineer asking him what he was doing and why he was hammering against my fence. Apparently my neighbour said he could as that was the "only" place to put the cable (which is rubbish, he has his own house walls he can hammer against), as well as that it is his side of the fence so it is not an issue. I told him that this was my fence and to stop doing that and take it down and find another way to put the cable but not against my fence. I also told him I gave no one permission to do this either (and I still have not).
I went back inside into my meeting, only to find that my neighbour was out there telling him to carry on and finish the job. I could not get off the meeting the second time. By the time I was done they had finished putting up this cable.
What are my rights with regards to this. The fence is owned by me, I erected it and paid for it. In the deeds I own that property line. Do I have the right to remove the cable from the fence?
Thanks

Is it worth getting into a dispute that will go on for ever over? Tacking a cable to a fence is hardly the end of the world. Ask yourself where its going to end.
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.8 -
Why do you have a problem with a cable being attached to your neighbours side of the fence it’s hardly worth worrying about and certainly not worth creating a dispute with your neighbour over. Yes he should have asked permission and you probably could get it removed though legal action but life is too short to waste time on such a non event.

I think strictly speaking they cannot attach it to your fence but I doubt it will cause any damage so I would ignore. What is your concern with this?0

Am I right to assume you don't get on with this neighbour?3

Personally I have no issue in getting into a dispute over this. He has been very quick to jump conclusions in the past with regards to me, one in particular when he got burgled he told the Police that it was my fault that he did because they climbed up on the fence that I erected (this particular fence) as it made it easy for them to get into his garden. Just because I erected the fence to withstand the 60mph+ winds that whip between the houses during the winter months is not a reason that it was my fault he got burgled. The Police even had the audacity to come over to me to tell me I needed to do something about it because he made such a stink. And on another incident he erected CCTV camera's around his property and one of them pointed over my 6ft fence directly through a windows into my property. This window was right outside a bathroom which my kids used. He refused to move it to the point I had to get the ICO involved. So yes .... I have no issue at all ...2

@Gavin83
You assumed correctly.0 -
What kind of fence is it? Not the more traditional garden fence I would assume, as surely OpenReach ("BT Engineer") would not attach a line to such a thing?

You’ll forever be at war with this neighbour if you’re always trying to get one over on each other. Life’s too short to worry about stuff like that.2
