a new petition i have come across is calling for the £400 energy support that every household recieved last year to be reintroduced this year,
although energy prices are decreasing they still remain at record levels!
i've signed this petition because in my eyes those that don't recieve COL payments and are over the threashold for UC by just a couple of pound are going to still feel the most hardship this winter coming.
let me know your thoughts and i've also included the link to the petition below

if you don't try force change you can't create change0 -
No, all of the handouts have to be paid for, essentially by spending less elsewhere, even if they come from additional borrowing or higher taxes that is ultimately the impact that they have.will_he_wont_he said:a new petition i have come across is calling for the £400 energy support that every household recieved last year to be reintroduced this year,

The public have got too used to "free money" over the last few years, the national debt is huge and is going to cause serious long term problems for the economy and public services, more free money will further increase inflation and will contribute to the deficit.
If there is more "free money" to be thrown around for energy then it should be spent on nuclear power plants, or more generally it should be spend on education and healthcare.17 -
This would and also states that the correct way to fund this would be another windfall tax against the energy companies, exactly the same as it was last winter, many households will still find it unaffordable this winterMattMattMattUK said:

The windfall tax could still be charged and the receipts spent on something useful as suggested.
Our government gets most of it's budget from tax receipts, spending it on our energy bills is not the best use of that money.
People have had plenty of time to plan and budget for increased energy costs, no general bail out is required for this coming winter.3 -
i totally disagree, many households are using food banks to survive and many don't know where their next meal is coming from!

thousands of households are working all hours god sends and still in minus come the end of the month.0 -
I think you do agree really.will_he_wont_he said:

Thousands of households may need some help, but the remaining millions don't.
A generalised £400 handout to every household in the country is not required this year and to do so would be a waste of money.
Targeted help for those most in need will be required and happens most years in any case with things such as winter fuel allowances and warm home discounts.
I didn't need £400 last year and I don't need it now, and there are millions just like me.10 -
As always, I have no objection to targetted support through the existing system, but another round of 'everyone gets £400' really cannot be sustained.Whatever revenues can be generated from any additional taxation needs to be used to start paying back the costs of the support already given...3

Those who are in dire need, yes need help but not what we got last winter, my £400 is still sitting in my electric account, my direct debits have reduced until it has been used. To give another pay out to all is not what is needed. I think if any help to be given then it should be targeted.will_he_wont_he said:

Surely, rather than give £400 to every household whether they need it or not, why not give £800 to the one in twenty (I'm guessing) that really need helping?0
