Have Lyca silently shifted all 1p MSECH3GB tariffs to 49p?

While logging in to check my remaining bandwidth on a 1p SIM (still in its 1st month since activation), I noticed that the account's tariff (MSECH3GB) is now described as 49p for 6m, £4.90 thereafter.

Is this just a visual glitch on the website caused by the old 1p MSECH3GB deal being pulled?
Or have Lyca, without notification, increased the price by a factor of 49x for everyone on the recent 1p promo?

I hope it isn't the latter, as that's mucho mucho Bait & Switch!

Hello @TehJumpingJawa, would you mind sending an email to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com so we can get the right eyes on the issue?

Please include your full name and Lyca phone number in the email (not here in the Forum). If possible, screenshots would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

    MSE Laura F
  • Looks to be a visual glitch only; when my month rolled over I was only charged 1p, not the 49p indicated in my account.

I have just received a text, saying that my current plan (£0.01/month for 6 months) will renew (for month 5) at the 'offer price' of £0.49 (online account shows the same) - hopefully the same 'glitch'?
  • I've had the same text after three months, will renew at 49p

    In the same boat.

Hello from Lyca Mobile! The third month of your 6 month offer will end in 10 days. Your plan will get renewed at the offer price of £0.49 against the standard rate of £4.90.

Any update on this Laura. Can send through my details as well if required?
  • Having had the 0.49 message I've just had 0.01 deducted so it must've been a technical glitch

I had the text today from Lyca saying my third month will be 49p instead of 1p. If that is the case I will be dumping them. I use them as a backup in my second sim slot.

Subsequent email from Lyca stating that renewal would be £0.01, now confirmed on credit card; seems the text they sent was indeed erroneous.

I had the same SMS and the tariff price had updated on my account however I only got charged 1p so all good. Also got this off customer services.

Yes, the text notification has been triggered for old customers incorrectly. 49p a month is applicable only to new customers who signed up on or after May 22, 2023. The MSE 3GB plan will be renewed at 1p for those who signed up prior to May 22, 2023.

For terms and conditions of the plan, please refer to this link: https://www.lycamobile.co.uk/ucustomer/mse-3gb/

Note: Old customers will get EU roaming data cap of 1 GB whereas new customers those who signed up after May 22, 2023, will get EU roaming data cap of 2.5 GB.

To check plan or bundle allowances, dial *137#

I’m pretty certain the EU roaming data cap was 2.5 GB on the 1p one too. I did screenshot it but must have deleted it and impossible to find out anywhere on your account section. Can anyone confirm.
