They will still be living there and not getting half the 'goods' this isn't like buying something from shop or having a meal out.Yellowsub2000 said:Apparently this person says the roof need to partly come off and scaffolding and waterproof sheets all around that part of the property. The rest of the house will get dusty and workmen in and out.
If you are only getting half the goods or services you are paying for you should only pay half the costIf I needed such work on my home I would need to continue living here do you think the bank would accept me to stop paying my mortgage because my stuff is getting dusty.2026 wins - Parker Pen, American Sweets bundle, dish magic bundle

It’s totally different borrow funds for something like a property or paying funds to use goods or services like a property.marcia_ said:

if you were renting an office space and half of it was unavailable for a while due to work being done then the rent would be half.
it’s the same with anything you are paying for goods or services if you are not getting what you are paying for then it’s unfair.
if I pay full price for goods or services that I’m only getting half of what I was paying for then I would not be happy but that’s me personally0 -
Why don't you ask Charlie or Chris or whoever as you seem to ask questions but refuse to listen to answers.Yellowsub2000 said:

Also, as someone who was in a rental that had to have to roof replaced and brickwork done, the workmen never came in the house. Not that real world experience comes close to a YouTuber.

I wonder what the ombudsman would say once its all started next year?
im sure they would agree the tenants don’t have to pay full rent if they only get half the house.
also it would be good to use things like this when negotiating lower rents with the ombudsman saying there are problems with damp or somethings are broken and have needed to be fixed but the LL didn’t pay for them to be fixed.0 -
Has the L actually stated that half the property will be unavailable?
That would seem odd since ...
Scaffolding - outside
Roof - outside
Walls - not clear what is required but seems unlikely to be demolition
Dust - dustsheets
Builders - normal working hours, inconvenient but necessary.
Perhaps a goodwill gesture for inconvenience (so long as the T retains goodwill) but half rent is very optimistic.1 -

How are you getting half a service? You will still have exclusive use of your homeYellowsub2000 said:

Tenant reports a problem. Landlord agrees to fix it. This fix will then improve the tenants life, not having to live in damp mouldy conditions. Most tenants would be happy that the landlord is fixing problems that will improve their living conditions and put up with any inconvenience while it is being done.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. As pointed out elsewhere, according to the government page, the ombudsman won’t manage rent disputes. That will remain the responsibility of the courts.…Yellowsub2000 said:I wonder what the ombudsman would say once its all started next year?

”The First-tier Tribunal is part of the courts system. Disputes which will still require judgments from the First-tier Tribunal include rent disputes, appeals by landlords against financial penalties imposed by local councils and applications to recover prohibited fees under the Tenant Fees Act.”Here’s the link (again!) https://www.gov.uk/guidance/private-rented-sector-ombudsman-renters-reform-bill4
