First of all let me say I have a dual sim phone and two numbers I keep permanent. And this is a little sketchy from memory but is what it is. Money is tight. Do what you have to do. Peace.

For three months I take out a Lyca £2 per month deal.
Next three months I take out a Lebara £2 per month deal.
Next three months back to Lyca £2 per month deal.

I have just ordered another Lebara sim, paying £2. That will last 3 months.

A years bill for 24 quid in total.

The catch :: Each 3 months is a new sim and I have to port my existing number to it.
However, you can time this so that you don't lose calling or texting power.

One of the 3 month deals was at £1 but I forget which, the deal wasn't so great.
One of the deals (maybe the same one) had no texts but plenty of minutes.
The £2 deals are better.

What I have noticed is the deals seem to change a little in what you get for £2.

*** It is possible however to do this and get a year of mobile phone use for £18

But how many minutes, texts and data do you get? Something like RWG’s deal could still work out cheaper depending on what you use.

Why swap every three months? If you look at the deals on mse they last six months, so you can halve the number of ports and new signups. You can probably get cheaper than £2 pm too.

It's good moneysaving but personally I wouldn't want to be PACing my main phone number every three months, I've had it since before smartphones were a thing and I like to minimise any chance of losing it, however small.

I use a dual SIM phone and have a cheap PAYM with minimal data for calls/texts and then use the kind of deals that @satanloans mentions for data.

Could probably do cheaper but like the fact that my coverage is solid and wi-fi calling (essential) works.

So by lots of fiddling and keep porting you number you can get your annual bill down to £24

That makes my £36 for a years calls texts and data look extremely good value without any hassle and risk of things going wrong.  Do you really think it worth all that bother to save £12 per year?

As I said, you can get it down to £18 per year. But the £1 deals aren't so good. The deals may have been changing but as long as I can communicate in some way, 1,000 minutes or as many texts, upto unlimited, even one with no texts, but lots of minutes, it's worth the hassle. Two sims two main numbers.

I know it's a bit of a ball ache but you are only doing it once every three months, to one sim at a time.

That is, until the prices and deals change again. And yea, with COL that £12 is better in my pocket. It takes a few minutes to do the deed so works out better than minimum wage, on the whole.

But yes, the industry could just stop all this nonsense and drop the prices properly, for good.

Are the 3 month deals you are on better value than the 6 month deals on mse?
And a 2 year sim from rwg costs £35 with a lot less hassle if you don't need 3gb+

Lyca or lebara monthly deals for 6 months on mse (I.e. here)
    49p for 3gb
    99p for 5gb

Not sure why you would pay £2 pm and port out twice as often (unless you need a lot more data)
But if you use dual sim why bother to port both numbers?
