Co-operative Bank have brought back their refer a friend offer. Same £125 bonus for you and a friend but new terms.

This time you need to set up 2 direct debits, pay in £800 and make 5 card payments within 60 days of account opening.

They've also given a clear exclusion for anyone who has held a Co-op current account or smile account of any type since 1st November 2022.

Find all the details and full terms and conditions here: https://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/products/bank-accounts/refer-a-friend/

@bridlington1 They've specifically added a clause this time. Perhaps ammunition in your FOS case, to show they weren't clear enough last time? Probably download the PDF in case it is taken off the internet at any stage.

I've gone one better than that. They're now saved on the wayback machine in case anyone else needs a copy later down the line. See:

I have a slight suspicion (I hope I will be proven wrong) that they may be needed by others given that they don't seem to have said whether this is a different offer to the previous £125 offer or whether it is the same offer relaunched.

Given anyone that benefitted from switching for the £125 offer will have had to hold a Coop account since 1st November 2022, a term like that isn't needed.

But on the face of it, someone who benefitted from switching for the £50 prior to 1st November 2022 and closed their Coop account before that date should be able to qualify for this one on the basis it's not the same offer.

I would agree that this doesn't appear to be the same as the previous offers and that someone who has benefitted from the £50 offer prior to 1st November 2022 and closed their Coop account before that date should be able to qualify for this one.

I was thinking more along the lines that Co-op seem to have classed both the November and January £125 offers as "enhancements" or relaunches of the previous £50 offer and have refused to pay up on this basis. Given that the new (May) £125 offer has the same name as the previous £125 and £50 offers it wouldn't surprise me if Co-op haven't tried to pull the same stunt again.
  • My son applied in February 2023 and his application was being reviewed.

Still no account, still no update, still no action.

I wouldn't recommend this outfit to anyone!

Someone I referred for the February offer opened a donor account with Barclays to switch into a new Coop account and Barclays closed the donor account with immediate effect as soon as they were notified about the switch request (weeks after the account was opened) and banned them from banking with them. So it's not just Coop. And a warning to others not to use Barclays for donor accounts.
Do you know the reason given for closure with immediate effect? I don't think switching an account out would usually permit the bank to do that - unless they suspected fraud

I don't know. It was their first time attempting to switch and now they think it's fraud to do that!

Barclays is pretty poor at handing complaints (IMO), but perhaps your friend should raise a complaint with them claiming consequent financial loss due to the loss of getting the switching bonus. Barclays is within their rights to close the account and ban them, but the timeframe they did this in does not seem fair or reasonable.
