Do you use private browsing when searching for holiday deals online?

I'm keen to hear from anyone who uses incognito/private tabs to research holiday deals. 🏖️

  • Do you find prices appear differently depending on whether you use incognito/private or not?
  • Do you find new discounts appear for you depending on whether you use incognito/private or not?
  • Do you have any successes you can share?
Thank you.

I have tried this, and also using a VPN to pretend to be in a different country. The only differences that I have seen have been in the language of the websites and the currency in which prices are quoted: I never had the opportunity to save money by doing this.

Nope, I just clean cookies and cache every single day and have for 20 years  :)

    Thank you, both!
  • I have found that occasionally switching IP address and browser does give different results, but in that case I usually steer clear of those sites because they are obviously pretty dodgy if they think that's acceptable.

I use the DuckDuckGo app browser on Android which clears all browsing data etc automatically when exiting.

I've never found any price advantages but I don't get lots of adverts etc from the sites I have been onto as I'm not tracked.

I always do it. I am convinced they jack the prices when you come back again. Unfortunately it doesn't always seem to work. The VPN advice is probably the way to go.

I clear my cookies and cache etc daily, so it doesn't save anything much, but I haven't ever found a difference in incognito and normal browsing in the 20 years I have been travelling.

Opodo is quite notorious for this; they use browser ID tools to gradually ramp prices up which you can fool using browser spoofing add ons. Opodo are a little difficult for other reasons, the tricks used to induce you into buying a prime membership and then poor customer services, but they're the only place I've seen a difference and I book a lot of flights all over the place, direct and with travel agents, to get the best fare I possibly can. So I'm constantly looking things up and comparing.

People will swear it happens, but at present in my experience it doesn't because of the way fare buckets work; what does happen is that seats sell and a bucket is exhausted so the price changes. The cheaper buckets are often very restricted.
