Hi all
My daughter is going to do Camp America beginning of June and I am trying to sort a way so she can get some data and it wont cost us the earth.
Read the main post on roaming however when I went to get a Three Sim its offering me 14 days of Go Roam for £50 so assuming I do not get it for free with the sim?
Basically has anyone got any good options? Her sim is currently out of contract so can switch to whoever or pay as you go if theres a better deal
Its got a lot more confusing and cloak and dagger with roaming since we last went to the States 10 years ago. No one seems to clearly say how much it will cost you
Any advice welcomed

Definitely look at a local SIM if she's there 3 monthsRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.1

Three PAYG SIM don't pay go roam fee.

Depending upon how much local/international calls/data she/you thinks that she needs per month then for 3 months definitely worth considering getting a local sim when she gets there. Her network options may be limited by what phone she has as presumably hers will be GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile) rather than CDMA.
If her phone is dual-sim then possibly the ideal would be 1 UK & 1 local USA sim.2 -
Many thanks for all the replies.
Think I am going to try the 3 Sim. The camp itself has wifi and she should be busy working most of the time so think.
3 seem to have an offer on for 50gb for £15 on bundles so think Ill go for that, understand she will only be allowed 12gb of it but another £5 for 2gb of data over there is pretty cheap anyway.
Only thing I wondered is I know you have to activate the sim in the UK which is fine but will monthly top up on to it be OK without activating it in the UK every month? More wondering if it is the sim you are activating or the bundle?0 -
It isn't clear how long you can keep a UK sim active outside the UK, but the answer is likely to be at least a year for any network. So long as the payment goes through for the bundle the network will continue to provide the service. Would probably be a good idea to use the service for a full month in UK before she goes.2

@freejack2k I can't see any mention of the time your daughter will be in the USA for, but other replies have mentioned 3 months.
If she is there for more than 2 months, then be aware of this clause in the 3 Go Roam conditions :- Go Roam is designed for those on business trips or holidays abroad. Not for extended periods of time. If you roam in a Go Roam location for any 2 complete months in a 12-month rolling period, you risk getting international roaming suspended on your account.

Is her phone capable of using an eSIM?If so that might open up a number of options.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1

Thanks again all, very interesting that 3 allows for 2 months of data roaming thank you for that.
She has an Iphone capable of E sim but I'm honestly no sure where to start with them
My next idea is to get another 3 Sim, activate both in UK and send the spare one with her in case first one is restricted.
Essentially she will be looking to whatsapp home and obviously if needs be phone a number in the USA. USA roaming has changed a lot since I was last there 10 years ago0
