Sorry for your loss and I'm glad the company was accommodating.  I hope you can enjoy your holiday when you get to take it.

Also sorry that people, some more than others, poked at you re the insurance.  It's not always helpful.  Granted insurance companies can be right B's with their T&Cs - a few years back mine didn't want to include my father as next of kin since we didn't live in the same country and therefore I couldn't be considered to be close to him.

My heart sank when you said 'Holidayhyprmarket' but good on them.
And the best advertising they can get! I'd consider them now.
That is one thing you won't have to worry about now.
Hope things go as well as can be expected in this awful situation.

I'm pleased that it's sorted, but the advice about when to take out travel insurance still stands.

It might be helpful to others reading this thread who have the same opinion of travel insurance as the OP had.

It's good news that the OP has a positive result.

We had a result today. Contacted TUI and because we didn't book direct with them or or TUI online they didn't really want to know. They told me to go direct to the company we booked with which was Holidayhyprmarket,
I contacted them, explained the situation and was placed on hold. She came back and said they would amend the holiday. I was told the only loss would be the booking fee. I now have until October to re-book.

    Well done, a result.
The advice about taking insurance as soon after booking as possible still stands.
Holiday Hypermarket are part of the TUI UK group, obviously they operate as a separate trading arm.

And checking exactly what would and would not be covered - I'm not convinced that all policies would actually cover the sad  situation experienced by the OP, given that the daughter and partner were not in a formal relationship and neither were actually part of the party travelling.

Good, albeit unexpected, news - but without being suspicious do you have this in writing from them ? For a departure on 14th May it seems incredibly unusual for them to give an extended rebooking period until October ?

Maybe some closer to the industry and 'packages' may see this but for me, regularly changing 'flight only' trips I've never been able to go beyond the original departure date for rebooking

Holidayhypermarket told me we had to rebook before the date of our Holiday which was on the 14th of May for it to be amended. We did look on their web site but found most the hols were expensive. We looked at September and the same Hotel was available, just that the price was considerably higher.
At least it has been amended and we haven't lost our money.
One more point, I have taken out insurance, which has cost a fortune. I never realised the price of holiday insurance was more expensive with the holiday being months away. Our insurance was £67 and to amend that was another £42 on top. Its all done now but hopefully we'll not need to use the insurance.
Thank you to all those that made the effort to reply.
    Jeff.

If your travel insurance is only £67 that isn't expensive.  How much did you stand to lose if the tour operator didn't allow changes to be made?  I'm not clear why you think taking out cover 'early' is more expensive.  What has given you that impression?  Genuine interest to know.
