Bill from Octopus after moving house, but I brought my supplier

This is an excellent example of why there needs to be far more wide-reaching education on the processes to be followed when moving home doesn't there. The OP on this thread let's be honest is far from the first person to be mislead by an energy company like this - and then there are still more who simply don't realise that's the way it works and assume they are able to stay with their supplier. Ultimately it comes straight under the heading of "People can't know what they've never learned" to me - but there really needs to be a stop on suppliers NOT then educating them accordingly when the subject comes up. (And how on earth Eon didn't make the connection that Bulb > Octopus is another question entirely!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Personally OP you would be better off staying with Octopus , the best run supplier IMO and thren you would have a chance of getting on their fantastic Octopus Tracker which I got onto mid January
.Since then I ve been on not far off half price gas rates ( todays gas kwh rate is 4.91 p and 19 p kwh electric ) and a third cheaper or more on electric averaging around 20 p /kwh
IMO you d be better off dumping Eon and moving over to Octopus . I had to phone them personally last year to get away from Eon.
This is an example of how bad Eon is, or one of their CS advisers is.
and how poor they are trained.
They should have said register with Octopus, then inform us and we will take over and honour and reinstate your DD and two year fix .
That is the only way its worked and Eon cannot make their own rules2 -

I wanted to bring Eon across because when I moved to my last flat in December 2021, I fixed my rate for 2 years, right before everything went to hell. That fix is until December 2023, so until then I'm on a good rate and through the problems we've had, I have been completely shielded from the high prices.I have to be honest, I didn't know what the process was, I just rang Eon a couple of weeks before moving, told them I'm moving and they said they'd take care of it. For my part, I didn't tell Octopus. But in my defence, I didn't know Octopus were the previous supplier until I got a bill earlier! It turns out though, that Eon did indeed take over on the 10th April as they said they would.Surely, getting a bill when not being supplied is not Eons fault, even if they didn't tell me what to do properly?1

Please stop telling posters that it’s not possible to move your existing supplier with you.
As I’ve posted previously, I did it myself last December. Same as OP, I was on a fixed deal with EonNext and they began the process of switching before I moved so that on moving in day they took over the supply. Yes, the incumbent supplier Scottish Power got things a bit wrong and I had to sort that out but it took just a few emails to get myself off their system.
Maybe not every supplier does this but if you’re on a deal you want to keep then it’s worth asking.1 -
