Government Alarm sounded this morning - system hacked already?

I jumped out of my skin this morning (10.11am) when my phone started the alarm siren squawk during my daily walk in the forest. My phone had been on since yesterday afternoon. Startled, I simply banged the OK button - the text was too tiddly for me to read without reading specs so I've no idea what it said, but I don 't recall the overall layout being the same as was touted as the official test text . So either hackers have hacked already (which wouldn't surprise me) or it was for real (because the Government's website states that any alarm  after yesterday's test is 'for real'). The third option is !!!!!!-up. Having more common test than the system developers have competence, I shall simply ignore it and any subsequent. But can't The Blob get anything right?

If you have an Android phone, go into settings, click on "Safety and Emergency", then click on "Wireless Emergency Alerts", in that menu "Emergency Alert History" will show the message.

Mine went off 14:59 yesterday and again 09:30 today. Another government triumph.

Mine didn't. All toggled off in settings. Including "earthquake warnings"!
    "Wireless Emergency Alerts"
Not in my Android 13 phone?
The 9.30 one could have been genuine and warning you to take an umbrella if you went out because it might rain?
I wonder who is going to benefit financially from this system? Just saying.

I believe Rishi's wife's company does, what are the chances eh?
  • mad how worked up people are getting over this!

Is that not the idea? Behaviour, control, moneymaking.
Why now and what is the "warning" for?
I know it's not the same, but some become all excited about a new debit/credit card design!

I live in a flood risk area and would be more than happy to have an alert with some early warning before the water is up to my waist.

    IMO its a good idea,

However, it's not much good unless its been tested to see if it works as intended and to discover where there might be problems so they can do something about it before the system is needed in a real situation.

I cant understand all the whinging whining that's going on.

Got to love this. But this is the whole point of a "Trial" to find issues with the  system, so it works, when needed👍

How many issues will be down to providers systems not being able to cope with the amount of these warnings.
Just like they had problems with texts over Christmas & new year... Their systems are not built to cope with the amount of usage in such a short period of time.

Did anyone else have the alert read out to them in an American female accent?

    I did.

I've not knowingly got any special feature activated on my phone (Moto G6).

DH cancelled his quickly so didn't get to hear the voice.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
