It has been said we should turn our phones off just before 3pm today, but should we also turn off mobile home modem/routers which also have SIMs?

You can turn off whatever you like, don't think that there is yet any legislation to prohibit unplugging stuff.1

Semi-serious point, I'm guessing that the alert would activate on a 4/5G device regardless of the presence or not of a SIM?0

How would it pick it up without a SIM?

The SIM is just a unique electronic identifier, all the gubbins (technical term) for receiving the alert are incorporated in the phone itself.1

I hadn't thought about other devices capable of receiving 4G signal - but if they aren't set up to act on the alarm instruction i.e. they lack the firmware or hardware then presumably they're just getting a packet of data they ignore.Fashion on the Ration

If you have 2 phones, take the SIM out of one and let us know what happens.Even more exciting! They should do a test every Sunday for a month so we can experiment. It ought to work sans SIM, you can make emergency calls without one.I can't see anything happening with a router, it can't display messages, but it will be interesting to see if it interrupts t'interweb somehow.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

The stuff I want to know is:* Will it knock everyone's Aunt Marge of a live mobile call?
* Will long-retired Nokias at the back of drawers come back to life?
* How bonkers are next door's dogs going to go?Fashion on the Ration
