Cruise Insurance

We have had a quote in region of £1800  to £2300 for a Carribbean cruise we both have health conditions  not terminal, over 65. We are seriously thinking of abandoning our plans Any advice? Thanks

Which magazine compiled a list of travel insurance with medical conditions last year.

    Here are the top ones

    Saga
    All Clear Platinum
    Free Spirit Flex Gold
    Holiday Extras Cruise Gold
    Staysure Comprehensive
    Able 2 Travel Gold
    Good to Go Extra Gold
    All Clear Gold plus

You will need to check each policy with regards to additional cruise cover.

    Hope this helps.
  • I have done a few of those all over 1000 it's crazy. Hubby has mild heart disease never had a heart attack and on meds I have osteoporosis and a few other conditions but all under control. This is causing us to have to rethink a holiday we would like to do.

Its ultimately up to you and what risks you are willing to run.

By far the most expensive medical expenses claim related to travel I saw was a person on a Carribbean cruise who had a stroke whilst on the ship. Ship had to be diverted, passenger air lifted to a local hospital and then air lifted a second time to the US for more specialist care and unfortunately ultimate his remains repatriated to the UK. Came in at well over £1m

On the flipside no one would insure my ex's medical condition so ultimately our choices were not to travel or run the risk. Thankfully our gamble paid off and we had some amazing trips
  • I am glad you had some great trips. Obviously they were based in GB, were insurance is minimal. Thanks

We hadnt at the time of her developing her condition (not heart) and so took the risk of travelling without her having insurance for it. Clearly wouldnt recommend it blindly but it was the right decision for us and thankfully it was just that condition that was excluded so if anything else happened that'd be covered as normal (unless it fell under "related conditions").

The issue is that claims can be very expensive but the relatively low price charged for your average person indicated the approximate risk levels (our premiums were sub £50 each with her condition excluded)

Unfortunately they seem to lump the Caribbean in with the USA for travel insurance which makes it much more expensive. Could you consider a Mediterranean cruise?
  • Probably have to.
    Thanks

Have you looked at Travel Insurance linked into your bank account?  Nationwide is £13 per month up to 70 years old.  We will be adding cruise cover later this year.
