Me too, i really don't mind what kind of OJ i drink, but do you think you'd need a nice midrange one to go with champers? Value can be a bit bitter.....

  • Afternoon all. Blimey it was a bit skid pan alley on the roads this morning near my house.

Food shopping comes this afternoon, prescription request went in this morning, nearly all done and dusted!

OH is going to a do tonight and has asked me for a lift. It's right on the other side of Bournemouth which means getting through Poole and then crawling through everyone trying to get into Bournemouth for the late night shopping. I hate driving at the best of times :(

Just had a corned beef toasted sandwich. Stuffed now.

Tee hee - great picture IA - when I had a cat she used to do just that!

Well, finish work tomorrow morning and I think forces have conspired to make my last couple of days as niggly and hassley (are those real words?) as possible! Lots of last minute things to do and while I've been busy doing them I've had people trying to drag me off to things like leaving presentations for people that I don't even know and accusing me of being anti-social.....

  • I've just had an unexpected but very scrummy substitution in my Christmas delivery from Asda.

I thought I'd put a pack of 6 part baked rolls in the 'trolley'. Turns out I put a pack of 6 petit pain croissants, which were out of stock.......so they put in 8 chocolate part baked petit pain croissants and charged me half the price to take the price down to the same as 6 normal croissants!!!

Not really sure why I thought I needed 6 part baked bread rolls anyway

...........licks warm chocolate off hard to reach area of lips..........:D

this thread always seems to make me hungry...and fancying a wee drink!

I've been thinking about having a really frugal January and not drinking for the month so maybe I'll have to avoid the board. not sure I can do it though, but then maybe that means I drink too much...

  • God, I'm shaking and scarlet.

I have a very bizarre and irrational fear of driving. It's got worse as the years have gone by and other than taking the dog to the park and the supermarket (and even then I'm selective) there aren't many places I will drive to unless I know the route really well and even then it won't be further than a couple of miles.

Tonight is my OH's Christmas do and I dread taking him each year. I plan it for days, in fact he told me a different hotel and I only found out the correct one this morning which made me feel even worse as the other one was closer. It's only a 15 minute drive across Poole and Bournemouth and even though I dropped him to the exact same place 2 years ago I was still cr*pping myself. I was ok up to half way as it was part of a journey I used to do to an old job years ago.

There is a roundabout though about 1/2 a mile from where he needed dropping and it scares the !!!! out of me. I was already scarlet as I got around it - the road leading to it is dual carriageway with a 50 mph limit (with 3 speed cameras) and I was doing just over 40. He was going 'come on, it's 50 along here'. I replied 'yes, but I'm not catching the car up in front and nobody is overtaking me'.

I got to the next roundabout after the scary one and he is saying 'go, go, go' (he was late) and I replied calmly - 'I can't, there is already a car on the roundabout coming towards me, I'll pull out when it was safe'. He afterwards said he agreed I was correct.

I think I know what caused it - an incident on my first driving test on a dual carriageway and not being able to get the car in gear but it is getting stupid as that happened in 1996 and hasn't gone away even when I passed my test, Iused to 'volunteer' to be navigator when Ihad to go to meetings in London with colleagues and that was in 96/97/98. I did some reading this afternoon and this sums it up 100% -

    http://www.phobiaclinic.co.uk/driving.htm?gclid=CIOjq8nAt5ACFQjUlAodPQG3Fg

I'll have to go and pick him up in the early hours, and bizarrely that doesn't bother me half as much as the roads will be virtually empty.

It's stupid - I am a safe driver but have this phobia. I bought this car in February and it's the longest and fastest drive I've done in it since I got it :(

I need a drink but as I'll be driving later I won't risk it!!

    I am still shaking now!!

not sure why I decided to share that!!! Probably look stupid now :(

Don't worry about looking stupid - you just needed to get it off your chest. If you hate it so much why did you agree though??? In the words of Zammo "just say no". Could you maybe try to get used to driving a wee bit further regularly and extend your comfort zone a bit at a time? Personally I hate motorways but unfortunately have to drive on them lots!

  • Have you thought of having a couple of refresher lessons to get some of your confidence back?

If you want someone to make you feel a little less stupid I will tell you what happened to me yesterday while I was driving ....

.... I took the kids out to a party and when we left it was dark. I put my lights on and realised they were on full beam. I couldn;t work it out - I clicked the thing round twice as usual, but they were on full. I didn;t have my phone on me to ring hubby to ask for advice so decided I would have to drive back with them on dim as surely that was better than full. Got on to the main road and was nervous as it wasn't lit and it was obvious to me that my lights weren't on well as I couldn;t see the reflection of them on the road. I put them on full beam to see better and there was a police car right in front of me. Sh*t I thought .... he'll pull me over .... aarrgghh. He switched lanes approaching the roundabout so I thought he was going a different way - phew, I thought. But then he came back in my lane behind me. I thought he was going to pull me when we got off the roundabout and kept checking my mirror waiting to see him flashing or the blue lights or something. Anyway, luckily he didn't pull me. Got further down the main road and there was another police car, a police van and a police bike. Sh*t sh*t and double sh*t I thought .... they'll get me now. No ... they let me go on. They were trying to catch speeders.

So I nervously drove the rest of the way home and parked up. Hubby came out to the car to see what I had done to the lights and basically I had clicked the stick - you know like when you flash someone to let them pull out - and it had remained like that. All I needed to do was click that back off. I felt really stupid!

Unfortunately, it's as skint_spice says: You're going to have to get out and drive more often. The only way to overcome phobias - no matter what they are - is to confront them head-on.

Alcohol isn't going to help cure it.

No. Not in the slightest. Everyone is afraid of something. Unafraid people merely haven't met it yet.
