‘Grey imports’

Several years ago. We used to get a lot of non receipt claims on a certain company that said they had a London address. When you looked through everything on their site. It was clear they were selling products from Hong Kong & shipping to UK (hence delay) Electrical & Photo.
They did go bust after several years, as they lost so much on the chargebacks. But people that got goods used to say that it does not have a UK warranty. Sadly nothing we could do about that.
Which is very much like a lot of items you get in Pound shops. As you notice the info on the product packaging is not in English. Very common on batteries.Life in the slow lane0 -
Goods manufactured without the rights owners consent, regardless of which factory they may have come from, are not grey imports, they are counterfeit.
The camera has not been manufactured without the consent of Nikon, and are not counterfeit. It has been manufactured for a different geographical market and is common amongst camera manufacturers. My knowledge is with Canon but I suspect Nikon work in the same way. Their warranty on SLR cameras is clear, purchase from outside the region in which you live and you will have to send the camera to the relevant repair centre. That may be Asia, USA.....

That is precisely what I was told by another photographer, that is why I want a refund.TELLIT01 said:Goods manufactured without the rights owners consent, regardless of which factory they may have come from, are not grey imports, they are counterfeit.

What I don't understand is if it's a genuine Nikon product is why it doesn't have a serial number on it. No matter where it was originally sold there should still be a serial number.TELLIT01 said:Goods manufactured without the rights owners consent, regardless of which factory they may have come from, are not grey imports, they are counterfeit.

It was in response to the scenarios posed by other posters that such activity would be classed as grey imports. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
OP - out of interest which Nikon body is it? I'm sure I'll know someone with one who can confirm where the serial number should actually be...0

I don’t want to give too much information until I email their head office, but here is a picture of the base of the camera, the serial number should be in the white box. I have coloured in some of it for that reason.cymruchris said:OP - out of interest which Nikon body is it? Although it has a white box - it could also be somewhere else - does it have an articulated screen? It's been known to be on the plastic behind there - and also inside the battery door. Just rule out the fact that the serial number isn't hidden somewhere else even though you have the above sticker. (I imagine it won't be - but just cover all the bases).Looking at all the options - it's also possible it was a previous repair where the part with the original serial number on was damaged and replaced.0 -
The serial number is supposed to be in that white box, Nikon confirmed that when they had it. I’ve also looked at other peoples cameras and each one has the serial number inside the box. When I took it back to the dealer, the salesman offered to write it inside the box!cymruchris said:keepitlegal said:
