I have managed to get through to 'hold' after countless times trying. I have now been on hold for 2 hours, and am wondering if as it is 6 April they are off on early Easter holidays? There is no way of finding out when their holiday dates are, and I wonder if anyone has been able to get through to them today, or knows their holiday dates. I am prepared to hold on the phone as long as it takes, but not if there is no-one in their office!

No, the Civil Service has to work the same as everyone else, so no early closure for Easter.

I had a day off today so spent most the day trying to get through. After about 20 calls, each time being cut off I managed to get into a queue.Kept waiting in the queue for 1hr 44 mins and then got cut off. Try again next week I guess. Not great at all,0

Just fyi, I tried again the next day, just after 8am and managed to get in a queue and only needed to wait for I think about 40 minutes, did not get cut off, spoke to a helpful advisor who then put me through to the HMRC. They then gave me a reference code and the HMRCs bank details so I could make the payment. So hopefully that is it.2
