Yeah! You can freeze mash, infact I purposely do extra potatoes for mashing and freezing. I think you can even buy frozen mashed potato (or perhaps I was dreaming :rotfl:It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.:kisses3:0

I have mashed potato and swede together many times and portioned it out for the freezer, to use as and when required. Best defrosted either in fridge or micro before reheating.0

Hi loopy-loo,
We have an older thread on freezing mashed potatoes that might help you so I'll merge your thread with it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together. Posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

Now that I'm back to work after 9 months maternity leave I'm trying to get organised with meals etc.
One thing I haven't done before is freeze mashed potato, so I have the following questions:
Does mash freeze well?
Is it best to add my milk and butter before I freeze it? or defrost, reheat, then add milk and butter?
Whats the best way to reheat it?
Also, can I freeze peeled potatoes ready for roasting?
Do I need to blanche them first?
Also (nearly there!!) can I cut potatoes into chips and freeze them? Do they need to be blanched first? Or is this not a good idea?
I don't get home until 6.30 so by the time I've picked the kids up from their grans/bathed them both and put to bed, it's usually 9pm before I think about any food for myself and DH
Sorry for all the questions!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hello
I've never had a problem freezing mash. I make it up as normal, make small patties of it and place on a baking tray. Open freeze like this, and when totally frozen, seal them in a freezer bag. When you need a portion of mash, just grab as many patties as you need, microwave for a few mins and bingo, fresh homemade mash in a jiffy
I'd love to know if others can freeze chips, never tried it myself.0 -
Does mash freeze well?yes
Is it best to add my milk and butter before I freeze it? or defrost, reheat, then add milk and butter?cook it as you wish to eat it then freeze in ice cube trays or other small portions
Whats the best way to reheat it? I use the microwave
Also, can I freeze peeled potatoes ready for roasting? yes
Do I need to blanche them first? yes - 2 mins, then plunge into cold water, then dry, open freeze then bag.
Also (nearly there!!) can I cut potatoes into chips and freeze them? yes Do they need to be blanched first? Or is this not a good idea? If you plan to deep fry your chips (apparently) you should deepfry them for 2 mins before draining, then open freezing. If you oven cook your chips (as I do), than they need blanching first as per the roasties.0 -
Mash only answer I'm afraid.
As others have said it is safe to add milk, butter, chopped onion, english mustard whatever.
I buy sandwich bags from Wilkos that cost 10p for 50, and put my portions in those then freeze. They easily come out when frozen to be nuked.more dollar$ than sense0 -

I do this but use an ice cream scoop and then freeze as above. Pop frozen in a hot oven and they brown up nicely. Instant duchess potatoes.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0
