    I do this all the time, OH has a pie and mash obsession, but I hate the instant stuff. My advice is to keep it a little chunky, and zap it in the microwave when you want it.

    I freeze mash all of the time, it never goes watery, it may depend on the type of spuds you use. I always use King Edwards and they are fine.

    I use one of those plastic rectangular tubs you get from the Chinese takeaway and pack each end with a portion of mash leaving about 3cms between them, once frozen I just twist the box slightly and they drop out, I then put them in a freezer bag and reuse the box.

  • I do :) Shape into small patties, place on a baking tray, open freeze. When frozen, seal in a freezer bag and just pop out as many patties as needed and microwave for 2 mins or so, depending on your microwave.

    Ok im digging up an old thread but i have a question about it that i dont believe has been covered:confused:

    If i freeze mashed potato and i dont have a microwave, what do i do?

    BTW - I do have a microwave but im thinking about freezing mash to take on our camping trip;)

    Any ideas?

  • Bung it in the pot and warm through on a low heat. You might need to add a bit of milk or marg.
    Edit; Or you could double wrap it in tin foil and throw it on the bonfire.

  • wow! I have now done extra mash and extra carrot and turnip all ready to be mashed and whats left over will be frozen. Not sure if I should mash the carrot and turnip in with the mash?
