Emergency alerts can be switched off on android phones via settings. No need to root or load custom roms.littleteapot said:I know it can be done easily with a custom ROM but some apps (e.g. banking) won't run on a phone which has had the bootloader unlocked or rooted.2 -
The Guardian have spent the last twenty years blowing everything out of proportion, everything has to be a disaster, emergency, calamity or tradegy. Discussing a news story rationally, factually and looking at potential solutions is beyond them, it is unfortunate, 20+ years ago they were far more reasonable but they now seem to be a parody of themselves.Altior said:Not just Lewis and auntie of course.

Only when they can spin against a Cons govt I suspect.
It's annoyingly one of the only broadsheets without a paywall now.
But the left wing bias makes most of it unreadable unless one of the Faithfull.0 -
The Guardian have spent much of the last decade being against Labour as well because they did not deem them left enough, they initially fell into line behind Corbyn and backed him even though he was a disaster for the left, they then wanted a hard left candidate to replace him as leader. On almost all their articles for the last two years their only solution to any issue, which is of course a disaster or emergency, is to have a Labour government, though that would solve nothing as it would be potential policies that could help, but the Graun seems to be loathed to present any actual solutions. Then of course is their drift into identity politics which is a poisoned chalice, but they want to force everyone to drink.Scot_39 said:Only when they can spin against a Cons govt I suspect.

Have you tried PressReader for digital copies of newspapers including supplements?@Scot_39 said:Only when they can spin against a Cons govt I suspect.

Free for members of Herts County Library, maybe yours ... you don't get The Times but most of the others including The Telegraph and Mail plus the Sundays.0 -
From memory the library staff said no, to one of the magazines i read weekly and press - might look again - I didn't register as a result.
Looks like on the list. Will check when pop in mid week.
I used to spend a couple of hours a week reading back issues.
Always had to read some stories in multiple papers to balance left or right wing bias on anything even remotely spinnable.0 -
Used to be that the BBC was my go-to for fairly balanced reporting. Now even they don't let facts get in the way of a good rage-bait story.Scot_39 said:Always had to read some stories in multiple papers to balance left or right wing bias on anything even remotely spinnable.4 -
Just to expand on PressReader, I believe it is available UK wide.
You can login at the PressReader website, select your county library service and enter your library card number, you can read newspapers and magazines online. You can also install the Windows app and smartphone/tablet app to access and download what you want for permanent access.
There is lots of information if you google PressReader for libraries and there are Youtube videos. Support services for your county should be able to provide details.
I've been using the Windows app for years and it's brilliant.1 -
I use two main libraries - local county councol one in town and in city in another county 35 miles or so away - for better, more up to date selection and a lot more reference material too. Which is where I've been getting stuff recently.Only 1 appears listed in the search app - the local county one - I need to get a new card - as cannot find my old one - to try the facility. So not 100% coverage for free access route.0

I refuse to be victimised by this so called “emergency alert” test by our dishonest puppet government. I’m setting an alarm to go off on my phone at the EXACT same time. They won’t catch me out.
Reminds me when they introduced their stealth plastic bag tax a few years ago. DIDNT CATCH ME!! I refused to pay it and just reused my bags! You need to think fast to keep ahead of the man!1
