Just noticed I am getting obsessed with the THANKS button!
Hester have you tried your local church? One near me put a flyer through the door asking for donations of anything that could be useful for their elderly church goers or that could be sold in their next table sale.
Also try your local school they always ask for donations for things.
Age concern? our local ones gives to the needy, a neighbour near me was given a few things recently, all secondhand but in very good condition.

Hi guys, hope you don't mind me joining in this one! I have not yet read all the way through this thread, but will do so when the children are in bed and I have peace and quiet!
I want a simpler life, sort of. What I really mean is that I want less stress and to be more organised.
I have made moves towards this but have an awful long way to go.
I am feeling strangely optomistic about 2008 though, and really feel as though I have the ability to do this, without that initial surge at the beginning of the year which wears off after about 2 or 3 weeks!!
Throughout 2007 with the help of these boards, I have taken great pleasure in planning meals, in making more from scratch, in fruit picking in the hedgrows with the children, and making jam from the resultant fruit, and in having a much simpler Christmas (without complaint from anyone I am pleased to add).
I have lots of clutter, including a garage full of stuff which came from my Dad's house that I couldn't face sorting when he died. This year I am going to make a start (I don't promise to get it all sorted, because it is an emotional as well as a practical thing) in sorting, carbooting, and throwing stuff away.
By the end of 2008 I hope to have more structure, less clutter, and less stress in my life in general.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

A bit of randomness for New Year's Eve for those struggling with too much stuff...been skimming through a book titled '365 steps towards harmony with Feng Shui and here is what it has to say about clutter:
"According to Feng Shui teachings, a messy house indicates a disjointed life. If a stack of old newspapers or a pile of dirty laundry hinders the flow of Qi (or life force) over a long period of time, Sha Qi will impose its negative influence on other areas, making you tired and even depressed.
"A congested hallway indicates a lack of openess toward new things. A mess under the bed may well kepp you from getting a good night's sleep..."
Incidentally, I trained myself years ago to always keep the toilet lid closed (when not in use obviously) and especially when flushing because, according to Feng Shui, energy drainage represents disappearing wealth!
I know it sounds bonkers but I'm superstitious about this now because it seems to have worked for me!

Whilst clearing one of my book shelves to night in addition to 'clear your clutter with fung shui' that I read yesterday/today for the first time I have found 8 books:eek: on fung shui and clutter/wealth!
Anyone near me want a free fung shui book!0 -
Thanks for all your suggestions Ceridwen, don't ruin your liver on my behalf though, lol.

Just a quick message to wish everyone a Happy Decluttered and Simplified New Year.
I have decluttered my ebay watching items today - I don't need them. I managed to put myself off them by copying the photos into the word processor and then enlarging them, where it was a lot easier to decide I didn't like them as much as I thought anyway.
And I found 3p on the ground today.
Best wishes and thanks for pointing me in the Old Style direction.:hello:0
