  • LOL @ the book gets it! I don't know why a charity shop won't take items unless they are electrical. In which case take them to Cash Converters. I've even taken some non electrical items there too.

I've decluttered my kitchen, but now can't get rid of the stuff, no one wants it on freecycle & none of out 3 charity shops will take it, I don't know what else to try.

The Salvation Army possibly. Womens Aid (for former battered wives setting up home on their own). Your local LETS scheme ("sold" for LETS credits). Leave on pavement the day before dustbin day with a note "help yourself".

maybe we should have a daily 'simplfying life' thread, like the one here on OS? we can share with others what we are doing, I have found this very helpful and realise how much more I can do, without discarding what I want/like to have around

I for one feel really positive about decluttering home, life in general and my head!

Happy New Year to all 'simple folk' on here, I am really enjoying this thread

Thank you - and to everyone else who is enjoying my "thread". Gee.....she says overcome with blushes.:o :D

I would be very flattered at the thought of it being a "regular". If people like the idea - I could try and work out a suitable "sticky" for it for whoever was first up of a morning to "go and fetch". If this did meet with MSE approval - I would need the help of someone more computer-literate than myself to get that in place.

I'll see what the consensus of opinion is on the Forum and what MSE thinks.
  • To live simpler life is to ask yourself do I need it if not than don't get it or do it, anyway less is more also it is healthy and less stressful.
  • The Charity shops said the china is the wrong age to sell, not old enough to be interesting, the local homeless charity said people, even their clients don't want old fashioned china. I'll have a look for a jumble sale, though I haven't seen any round here. I'll also try LETS, thanks for the suggestions.

Never let success go to your head, never let failure go to your heart.

... Then the book case gets it. ...
    :rotfl:

My bookshelves are in need of a SEVERE going-over! I have 2 deep pine slatted shelving units so I'm bribing myself that if I get one of the units emptied I'll be able to use it for a 'store cupboard' (its in the spare room!) so that’s given me a bit of encouragement - thinking of going in there and taking a tin of tuna off the shelf instead of fighting my way to the bottom of a plastic crate for it

I’ve already taken a mental stroll through the shelves and earmarked loads for dumping. Realised I can do this one more easily than I thought; I’ll pass on computing and graphics stuff to my son who works in IT and has students in his team. Other less specialised books will go to my sis for their next charity jumble. Sorted!!

I may buy myself a proper bookshelf and use the 2nd pine shelf unit to stack my craft suppies, wool and fabric, as I do have rather a lot :o not getting rid of any of that though, as that's all part of my simplified life, honestly :p

I really feel like I’m making progress now!! :j

I'm beginning to realise what a rare thing jumble sales are these days!

I'm so lucky that my sis and my friend are happy to take almost anything bar electrical goods. They even took an armchair that I was getting rid of, lovely but much too big for my place and they sold it for £25 :T They raise thousands every year with jumbles, and raffles and tombolas.

I'm a member of the european compact yahoo group and I've been hearing from some of them that they never see jumble sales advertised now. I think its just a bit beneath the people who fund raise for our local church! :shhh:
