sterilising solution....as in what one sterilises baby bottles with? Or is that summat to do with home boozemaking?
Well, technically you can use it for both, a cheapo, non generic bottle of baby sterilising solution, shouldn't cost a lot and is invaluable for mould and mildew. Not very eco friendly though, i have tried other stuff, and the only thing which comes close is salt and lemon scrub. The tea tree is very nice smelling as well, but will only hold mould back for so long....:o
I haven't done any home booze making for a long time, but am very inspired to try some, especially peapod wine, rhubarb, and an old favourite which is ginger beer..the elderflower cordial, and champers is also v.nice...hmm you shouldn't have mentioned it as i will now be on freecycle looking for more clutter....as in bottles for said brewing:rotfl:
Oh i mentioned a while ago that i was very inspired by a local author/lifecoach/ psychiatry woman called Vera Waters, she gave a wonderful talk at our local library last friday..extremely uplifting. I can recommend her for lightness of spirit.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
Hello all !
Lovely posting Aril and beautiful quote as always. I have a weakness for books but have been very very good since my clear out and bought none !! Absolutely none ! And that has to be a first ever..........I've looked and I've drooled but then the mse in me (plus tight purse strings) stops me in my tracks. OH on the other hand keeps bring in videos and cd's...........'well they were so cheap -5 for £1'...............fine, but where do we put them all ?
Glad the pepper mill is ok now greenshield
It is rather strange isn't it that a group of people from varied backgrounds and different current lifetsyles can have such similar interests as us lot here.
ceridwen - don;t mention food cupboards (the clearing out of......) I keep thinking, 'maybe tomorrow?' but it doesn't happen - I know it's going to be a long and daunting task -trouble is, the longer its put off the more cluttered it will be and the more daunting in the end.............so, target this week is to at least make a start. Progress will be reported..................:rotfl:
Well, today has felt strange with an 11 yr old who's interests appear to be 'nothing' (said with shrugged shoulders while walking around with deep sighs)..........so I got my card making stuff out in the hope he might enjoy messing about with paper and glue.............not so !!
Lunchtime and down the stairs comes young girl (ex girlfriend of our older lad)...........seems she phoned him at 6am after heated row with her mum and he let her in to stay the night !!!! I've told her, next time, should there be one, could she phone me ? It is, after all, our house not his and I would just now and then like to know who's here ! Apologies all round and off the two boys went to play football...................ah, thought I...........a chance to log on and have some 'me' time...............short lived it will be too as now its chucking it down with rain and they got back just in time ! Oh well, at least out older lad is very accomodating with this new youngster............I suppose talking to me is rather like talking to his granny..............................lol:rotfl:Mary

Well Mary
Good news that you can keep the 18 year old on with you. Can sympathise re the "unofficial" overnight visitor - one does like to know just who is staying the night....(voice of personal experience time).
I've been promised that carousel in my kitchen is about to be ripped out - so thats good - and I can get at that wall at last.
Further organisational thoughts - did I mention the method I have found for keeping stuff online in a way suitable for techno-illiterate me and I can access it anywhere and no chance of losing it if my p.c. goes down again? As in - I have created a "private blog" - so its just like my blog - but actually is my way of keeping notes for my eyes only. So I've been adding some recipes in there today that I like look of and various other bits and bobs - and will just use "labels" - as per my open blog so I can find things easily. Only thing is - it would work better if I used a laptop instead of a desk computer - as, if I wanted a recipe I had put in readily to hand, I could just take the laptop into the kitchen (not possible with my full-size thing) - but I'm thinking its a system that will work pretty well for me.0 -
ceridwen - how does that work then if you put stuff on your blog for safe keeping and your computer plays up or worse !!!!!
I've got family tree stuff on the computer (and other bits and bobs) but I always print them off as well, just in case anything really bad happens and I might lose the lot !
Mind you, I suppose if its on something like your blog, you can get at it via another computer in the library...........daft me........hadn't thought of that
Oh, forgot to mention -also today, ex foster girl came round with more washing -I don't mind as she's helped me out enough but what with ex foster lads washing and hers.......methinks I'll start to become Dot Cotton !!..................lol :rotfl:Mary

(whoops!) - errr....7 kilogrammes of rice anyone? I think I could just be eating an awful lot of curries to avoid wasting any of that
The bag may disintegrate before then, of course.
I will be left with a noticeable gap where the 2 carousel cupboard doors meet (as they have a bit of carousel "facing" sitting there at present) - but there will still be sufficient space in that cupboard - on the floor of it - for what little I now have in there - and I'll be able to get at that wall to clean it off (any good - natural - remedies for mouldy walls anyone?).
Best natural remedy for mouldy wall is ventilation
If it's an outside wall it could be due to condensation. Best to check that you haven't got a leaky pipe or gutter making the wall damp from the outside. The gap between the unit doors is actually just what you need - for a nice draught.:rotfl: Best remedy for mould is not environmentally friendly but it is effective. Household bleach, diluted in water with a squirt of washing up liquid. Kim and Aggie couldn't find anything to compete.0 -
Hi Mary
Well if my p.c. decides to play up again - it will only be for 24 hours - max 48 hours before its back to normal again. I now have two "men who can" and one or other of them will be able to help me out pretty quickly. So - it wouldnt be long before I could get back into accessing both blogs - the public and the private (diary/notebook) one. I've still not figured out how to keep folders of personal info on my p.c. anyways - but I do know how to do a blog! When my p.c. went down recently I lost everything I had on it completely - with a private blog that couldnt happen (as its "stored" out there on the Net). That was one blessing of having set up my public blog - when my p.c. went on me that time - I was quickly able to set my favourites, etc right back up again - I'd got the basic web addresses I refer to frequently there on my blog! It wouldnt work for most bloggers - as they do a rather different style of blog to mine. I basically run mine on a "ready reference for life" basis:D - which I felt would probably also appeal to other people besides myself - and I guess it does do so in the event.0 -
I read the other day that rice may keep for up to 20 years
The bag may disintegrate before then, of course. .
Noted Charis:D - just one leetle query re that - how to prevent the added "protein" appearing after a while. Not forgotten years ago - when I had bought a large quantity of rice - that part way through it I found it had acquired "added extras" so to say (not of a suitable variety for a vegetarian!;) ). I dont expect it would do any harm - and I recall my father mentioning episodes decades ago of having had to remove "livestock" from biscuits before eating them anyway_pale_ - but I dont think I want to make that a family "tradition".
Do you think if I transfer the rice to plastic storage containers (bearing in mind your comment re disintegrating bags) that it would be safe from "visitors"?0 -

Well.........today is another day (stating the obvious...lol)
Oldest boy at work, younger one at school till lunchtime so a bit of 'me' time in between the endless phone calls I've made about new 'charge' that now need to be returned............why is no-one available when I want them ???
OH has been to collect a Tele that works for new lads bedroom...........old one was stored away in the garage..........not surprised it didn't work properly so thats now destined for the tip along with another thats been located in a corner of the spare bedroom.
Had planned to go into town this morning but now can;t think what for so shan't bother. Paperwork to do -always get this with a new person - so thats next on the agenda.
Hoping to churn out some more christmas cards...........done all ours but want to do some for mums care home so they can sell them to the residents and put the money towards some kind of activity that needs funding.
So..............thats my day sort of planned........just hoping it all falls into place so I can get stuff done.
OH has just tried the new tele out upstairs and it's brilliant:T Thank goodness for that. There's always something kids want to watch that we don't...........:j
So far (and I know its early yet..........only10.30am...........things are sort of going as planned.....................am now waiting for something to crop up.........my days don't normally go smoothly...............lolMary
