Hi Mary
The first link was for milk paint only - then there was a 20 different paint recipes one - then a flour paint one.
An All-Sorts box worth - take your pick:D
At this rate I might enthuse myself into getting on with my decorating sooner than I'd thought;)0 -
Gracious me - I'm worn out before I start even popping out to buy a tin of paint without the hassle of making it...............lol Where do you get the energy from ???Mary

Well, not a brilliant 'simplifying' day though I have cleared out another load of papers and now have one less paper file -the other is in the'charity shop' pile.
Just one miniature chest of drawers to do on the top of the cupboard and that corner will be done. Small steps but big ones for me.
I carefully went through all the papers in the files and there were e mails from my brother when Mum was first ill................really nasty ones about him changing the locks on Mums house (before it was sold I stayed there and so did he when we visited Mum). I'd had a friend stay with me who knew Mum, plus grandchildren one weekend and he suspected I'd allowed them to use 'his' room. I hadn't but he didn't believe me and was going to change the locks so I couldn't get in !! Then I found some leters from Mum when she was first in the care home...........her writing was so poor and she was pleading for me to get her out of there, her finances didn't make sense (at this time big bruv had all her paperwork).......poor soul sounded so desparate and I found it very upsetting. I shouldn't have re-read them I know............anyway, now they're in the paper shredder..........no sense in keeping things if they give bad feelings is there and I must admit I was pleased with myself for being able to do it................I did hestitate a few times.
Visit to Focus do it all for paint has been postponed.........our lad's behaving a little on the strange side and I didn't want to leave him here knowing we were 20 miles away..........course now he's gone out so we could have gone after all.....................lol
Never mind, not the end of the world and I'm sure the kitchen cupboards
won't mind waiting.
Wednesday the sheet music gets collected (I do hope it's what the lady is looking for and she doesn't change her mind) so they'll be out of the way and once I get the charity shop pile shifted there's a bit more space and I can tackle the other corner in here where it's currently all piling up !
It's really quite exciting.............been coming across stuff I forgot I had...............lolMary

Hi guys, sory I've not been on again but this time it's because I am trying to actually declutter some things, finally! I hope to catch up with you all soon, and hope you are all doing well in the quest for a simpler life.
I was hoping that someone might be able to help me please - does anyone remember much earlier in the thread when we were talking about journals, and someone posted a link to a lovely journal that was made from an old French book? I bookmarked it at the time but can't for the life of me find it, either on my PC or in hereIf anyone could help me locate it I'd be really grateful. Many thanks.
Wow Mary, it sounds like you're doing really well! It must've been hard to shred those emails, especially from your mum, so well done for having the strength to do it. It makes so much sense not to hang onto things which hold bad memories; I'll try to hold that thought when I get round to declutter my things at my parents, so thankyou. I've only read a few posts back and I'm already hooked - making your own paint :T - I wish I had enough time and energy to keep up with all these great places. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

bails - I wish you luck with de-cluttering things at your parents. It's taken me 8 years to actually be able to 'let go' of my Dad if only in a small way, and just hold on to the very personal things, not just stuff because it was his and no one else wanted it. Its been a pleasure to see the music he played go to people who actually enjoy and respect it and my sons are over the moon with the little bits they've had.
Having got into the 'shredding' mode I carried on this afternoon clearing out a lot of old bills from 2003 !!! I mean, do I need to know what I paid for my elec and gas that long ago ? Filled a bin bag with shredded paper just in time for the recycling collection tomorrow.............lol
Don't remember this French journal...........must have seen it but its clean out of my head. Sounds lovely and I can't think why I didn't make a note at the time. Bet cerdiwen will know or maybe aril when they're about.
Ceridwen is a very brave woman to take on the paint making...........think I'd rather go and buy it ready made...........lol Be interesting to see the progress though.
Have now finished de-cluttering one corner of computer room :T
Tomorrow I see my counsellor.............then I might just tackle the accumulation of 'stuff' under my computer desk.................lolMary

Sorry Mary, I didn't mean to mislead you - I have a whole heap of stuff in the loft of my parents' garage, which includes many memories of my ex-fiance; it was those painful things I was referring to.
I'm glad that you have been able to let go of your dad in a small way, and that his things are so cherished. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Hi Mary
Well - more progress there - and stuff thats carrying memories too - so you're getting there. Step in right direction. Sorry it stirred up bad memories in process. Hang on in there - you'll get there.
Bails - I have the idea that the bit re French journal might be something that Rosieben put in. One way to bring it up might be to google (as opposed to doing an MSE search) and put in "Rosieben Simplifying Life moneysavingexpert.com" - I would think thats one possibility for bringing up her posts on this thread. I know that this thread as a whole is the subject of a google entry.
As a second post just googling for "Rosieben moneysavingexpert.com" should hopefully bring up some post or other by her and you could send her a P.M. from that.
As I said - I'm 99% certain that that would have been a Rosieben entry - I know shes very into journals and I'm pretty sure that I recall that as being one of hers.0 -
Thanks very much Ceridwen, I'll give that a go now!The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

bails - ex fiance stuff could be a hard task............I have to admit to throwing out some photos of second hubby (married in haste after 1st hubby died........big mistake) I did keep the wedding photo........that's in my section of the family history stuff..........after all, he was part of my life and he wasn't all bad. In fact he encouraged me to do a lot of things I would never have dare do before........but weighing it up, there were far more bad memories than good ones so ripping his photo up caused me no pain.......just relief to be honest. So in my book now, anything that gives off bad feeling is best got shot of.............the memories are still in our heads but without constant reminders of photos they eventually find a little slot in the back of our brain somewhere and other more positive thoughts take over if you know what I mean.
Oh and if you do find the link to the Journals can you put it on here if I don't find it. Love journals............one of my many weaknesses..........lol
ceridwen - I must admit I feel well pleased with myself having done one corner completely and shredded all those outdated bills. Filing cabinet needs the same kind of sort out and shred but I think tomorrow it will be the 'stuff' under the desk. I've four wicker baskets and to be honest I forget whats in them so it could be fun. As well as those there's an electric typewriter, a hatbox overflowing with bits of ribbon for cards that belong in the card making drawer (if I can get them in), a really pretty folder that just must have a use if only I can think what, and a concertina folder thats full of family history stuff..........mostlyl duplicates of what I already have so they can be shredded as well. Ooops.........just spotted another folder down there..................lol
Paint buying will have to wait now till later in the weak. Counsellor tomorrow and lady from freecycle collecting sheet music Wednesday. Our lad is at the moment being very very good...........a bit un-nerving......so depending on his behaviour Thursday might be paint purchase day !!Mary
