champys - de-cluttering in France ??? Ummmmm:drool: can I bring a van ? One mans rubbish -another ones treasure and all that.................lol
mary43 - you would be very disappointed, I don't think much or any of the clutter is French....! It all dates from when we moved from the UK 4 years ago: you know how you get so involved in all the things related to moving house that you throw things in boxes 'to sort out later' that you should have sorted out before leaving!
I can see the humour though of asking some OSers to help de-cluttering, and them coming back with so much stuff they will need the help of some other OSers to declutter, and so on and so forth till the clutter comes full circle!!"Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -

Oh boy do I know what you mean, we moved from Scotland to Hampshire, vowed to throw out all of the stuff we didn't need/want.....2 years later we moved to Leicester, still had a load of the stuff we moved from Scotland and we had brought it back,  moved twice in Leicester, but our last move meant we HAD to shed a load of stuff..........we downsized from 2 bedrooms to one and a large living room and kitchen to a meduim sized sitting room and a miniscule kitchen...............:D We did manage to sell most of the large stuff, but we must have made several trips to the charity shop, another load went to freecycle and some in the bin, but it has not cured me. Today I went to clean a friends conservatory and came back with a very pretty cut glass powder bowl,:Dshe was going to bin it....I also brought back a 6' x 4' rug which was going in the bin, but thats on freecycle....... I think I need serious help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and we are going to France at the end of April, I will be rummaging through the brocants and flea markets.............:j :j :j

Hello to shez, david and savannah - glad you have found us in here - it really is a relaxing place to be!
Good to hear what everyone has been up to.
Our decorating of the hallway is going well - 2 coats of white have successfully covered the old darker paint and today we put on a coat of the hint of cornflower - I thought it looked white until we put it on top of white - it's actually a kind of duck shell blue and is lovely. Bits to touch up and then waiting OH to come home on Tue as he has the manly job of taking off the radiator and the coat rack/ shelf thing and then I'll do behind them.
Have taken a few books on feng shui out of the library and it has inspired a cleaning bout - lucky me, mostly by DD. The house is looking so c l e a n and neat and do you know - it really is affecting my mood and making me feel more relaxed and calm. We have had great success with using Stardrops for cleaning so it's nice to know that the cleaning part is being simplified as well.
We've been enjoying good veggie stir fries from our veg box delivery. The only downside was my body's response to a delicious Jerusalem artichoke and carrot soup that DD made. The leaflet in the box warned that the artichokes cause wind and to take it easy to begin with. I had a massive bowl of soup and paid the price. Too much information?
I am continuing to practise living in the present moment. I fell asleep doing my meditation last night - really struggled to stay awake and do it and I had such a sound sleep, it was lovely.
Other simplifying things - another bag of books and clothes for the charity shop, along with an antique pine CD rack, so they are in the boot of the car for tomorrow morning.
Finally - I bought a Boots Basics handwash for about 15p (honestly!) and the label peeled off easily. This means that I have a nice plain white hand wash dispenser with no logo, so I'll be able to refill it. It looks nice and simple!
We're at the end of the week again folks, so I hope you find time to do something nice and relaxing over the weekend. Try to find some quiet time for yourselves to recharge the batteries.

becky2 - thanks for reminding us of that poem - one of my favourites. I'm not so sure about tired and irritable Friday evenings - it is difficult to summon up much energy after any workday - yet I seem to be okay at evenings when I havent had to go to work that day - so its obviously the job that is being rather "draining". Not an easy one - a problem for many of us - and I do try to "count my blessings" that I'm not lumbered with the hugely long workweeks our Victorian predecessors had or the 80-odd hour workweeks many do present day in China for instance. I dont always succeed though! It will be a huge relief when retirement comes. I keep thinking "there must be some way people can avoid the trap of decades of full-time meaningless work" - and then worry for the younger generation, who look likely to have even more of a problem with that than a Baby Boomer like myself has had.
I'm still just breathing sighs of relief that I've now done what amounts to semi-retirement for me (cut out all the sideline earning stuff I've had to do as well). Now I can reclaim a bit of my life.
Aril - like your quotes again - as usual.
Have a good weekend all. Me - I shall be doing a bit more of the last stages of "urgent" work on my house - not much longer now at last till I've got it to "habitable" standard - and thats enough then till I am retired and have more time to do some other stuff on it that needs doing. If I ever move again it will be to a brand new place or one that has been totally revamped already. Unless its a hobby one has chosen then I think one only ever buys one "dump" of a house in a lifetime (cures you of ever thinking of doing that again:eek: once you realise from experience just how much is involved!).
Not long now - then the biggest "task" ahead of me will be reading my way through the increasing pile of books I have acquired recently (mea culpa - books are my weakness - I plead guilty to that:D ) - and probably emerge with a lot more stuff I want to share with my virtual friends (now why can I feel virtual kettles brewing for coffee - or "battening down off hatches" coming on amongst you all - "MORE reading!":D ).0 -

The Dilemma is a well known inspirational poem by an unknown author.
Thanks for this poem Becky. I Googled a line of it and found that it is by Leo Buscalia. I wanted to see if the writer had produced more gems and I believe he did, although this page of his quotes just has to be the worst designed web page I have ever encountered.

Burgundy writing on a dark blue background is totally illegible! When I did a web building course we had to find examples like this (how not to do it). I'll have to keep searching.
BTW your Friday irritation is just a symptom of a stressed life with not enough rest and sleep. It's catching up with you at the end of the week. You are not alone. The only solution is to take more time for yourself and make sure you get enough sleep. Not always possible, I know.0 -
To make the web page Charis gave more readable, on your dropdowm menu, go to Edit then Select All. When it's highlighted it is much easier to readIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Charis - I see what you mean about that webpage - quite the worst I have come across - and I've seen some bad ones.
Would be interested if you do manage to find something more legible - I saw later post re the dropdown menu and altering the look of it - but me and computers are a bit of a mismatch shall we say - <<sitting here thinking to myself "dropdown menu" - huh - whats that?>>

I wonder if the web owner reads this thread - the body text is now white against the dark blue.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
