Bills not going down despite using less

Hi there I'm a carer for my mother who has Parkinsons and dementia and I switched her Scottish power from direct debit to providing actual usage readings each month. For the last few months the combined electric and gas has been coming to about £650 per month.
This month it has been warmer and I made sure that the gas was used much less, turning it down with every opportunity and I fully expected to have cut out about 40% of usage compared to last month when it was on all the time.
Yet I've just seen the bill and the gas has not got less at all. There were 28 days in February in which the bill was £286 / 28 = £10.20 per day. This month's bill for gas was £319 / 31 = £10.20!
How can this possibly be? I've been making a conscious effort to reduce it because she simply cannot afford these high bills and it's emptying her bank every month.
Is there something I'm missing here? How can it be the exact same usage when we've been using less?

We need more info - are the bills estimates or actual readings? What were the readings?Depending on how often you visit, you could take a reading each time and see if she is actually using less.0

Well she's on actual usage and I submit the readings each month so I'm assuming so...we're in Edinburgh, I've felt it a bit warmer the last month so kept turning heating down when I couldmolerat said:Are they using the supplied readings ?March has been a pretty cold month in many places.0 -

I don't visit, I live with her as i look after her and I'm sure I've been making a huge extra effort to turn it down as much as possible during march, but now I'm beginning to doubt myself because it just doesn't make any sense0 -
I make that £74 plus SC or £209 for a metric meter.0
