Strange car situation.
Ok, so, I've sold my car to my friend who is currently living in a different country (non-resident)
I have transferred ownership into her name via the .gov online service. Until she applies to get it imported over there, I will continue using it and paying for any repairs etc.
A few things I am unsure of...the tax wil obviously be cancelled. So how do I retax it as I technically wont own the car but will be driving it?
Also, should I change anything on my insurance?
Whilst waiting for the log book to arrive at her parent's house (registered address) I guess I cant tax it as I'll need the number off the log book wont I?
Is there anything I should be aware of to make sure it is still legal for me to drive it while she gets the papers in order to export it out of the UK to abroad?
Thanks.

If you have the green slip you'll be able to tax it based on that. No proof of ID will be required, I did this for my father a few years ago (he'd just bought the car, trailered it home and was working longer hours than the PO is open for a few weeks). I then paid for the tax with the cash he'd given me and applied for the new V5 there and then.
Don't lose that slip as you will have issues taxing it until the new V5 (which isn't proof of ownership anyway) arrives. You will also need to change the insurance immediately on sale to reflect that you are not the owner of the car.
Depending on where the car is going it shouldn't be a problem to export the car abroad and should require quite minimal paperwork. Many countries deal with this in-country and not at the border.💙💛 💔1 -
Called insurance today and she said I don't have to change anything. She was Indian and I think she had trouble understanding exactly what I was on about0

If you're no longer the owner and/or registered keeper of the car, this will need to be changed unless your policy document states otherwise (mine is explicit that I'm the owner and keeper of my car, also stating that any changes must be notified)💙💛 💔0

Can you email them and get a written reply that you do not need to change anything on the insurance now that you are no longer the registered keeper?

Now I've got another problem... Transferred ownership of the car back to my friend. As I'm still going to be driving it until its ready to be exported, I need to re tax it.
Now I can't tax the car! Tried all the codes of the v5 document but the online system is telling me nothing is recognised.
I'm now driving to and from work in an untaxed car. What do I do? Worried dvla will find the car and clamp it or I'll be issued with a fine.0 -
Surely, although the OP is not the owner, he is the keeper. So, he is wrong to have changed that. Goodness knows how to change it back again? As the keeper he will have no problem taxing and insuring it.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

When did you do the change online? It may be that the system has not updated yet.
