Good experience here too - photo and online stuff submitted on Monday May 30th, sent my expiring passport the next day.  
My new passport turned up today, less than a week's turnaround. I dislike this government, dislike that I've no longer got an EU passport, but this was very efficiently processed and sent back, with emailed updates informing me of progress. So credit where due.

I got back from Portugal on Friday night and, with only 11 weeks until my next trip, applied for renewal online on Saturday morning.
I got an email of receipt on Monday.
Email to say approved on Tuesday.
Delivered 8.01 am today (Weds)

Unbelievable service and turn around time.
