So got confirmation that daughter's renewal was approved on Easter Monday (weirdly) and then printing confirmed yesterday.

So old passport was sent March 28th, confirmed received on April 3rd, approved April 10 and printed April 11.

Can't really complain about that turnaround time.

Just waiting for DHL to confirm dispatch now.
Thank you, mine still showing as waiting for my old one!  :| 😡

Sent another email to query it and the dates of yours.

Reminder in my calender to check/chase up weekly if still showing as waiting for my old one.
  • Two recent experiences with the passport office for renewals. First, from submission of online application on a Friday in February, my wife had her replacement passport the following Friday.  That seems pretty good going to me as it meant in reality, the passport turnaround was within four days given the application would have been looked at on the Monday following the application, with the new passport being despatched on Thursday to arrive on Friday.  For my own passport I submitted my online application on the first day of the strike.  I delayed sending in my old passport for about four working days. However, even with this delay my new passport was back with me in two calendar weeks. This was all during the time the passport office were on strike.  Have to give credit where it is due and it is due in both of these cases.

How long ago did you send the old passport?  Were both passports sent in the same envelope?  Did you send them tracked and if so have you had confirmation of it being delivered?
It's possible that your daughter's just beat being caught up in the strike delays and yours didn't.

New one processed online 25th March. Old sent tracked and signed for 27th March.

Had a reply, which is the same standard reply, so going to try and not think about it until the 10th week roughly 9th June.

Thank you for your email about the progess of your application.

Your passport application is currently waiting to be checked.

Please allow more time for the old passport to be linked to the application.

All correctly completed applications are being processed within the timescales of the service you applied for, which is approximately 10 weeks.
You do not need to do anything and if we need anything else from you, we will contact you.

Unfortunately I suspect it is now caught up in the backlog which is being created by the strike.

Purely a guess, but if it's anything like when I worked for DWP work is distributed to staff to prevent cherry picking easy stuff.  That can mean that an item can remain in a persons in tray for a few days if they are called on to do other work or simply don't work every day.

I emailed the Passport Office with a query as my passport expired 30 years ago and I changed my name through statutory declaration.  I said it wasn’t urgent so expected to wait a while for a response

i got a response the following day.  Very impressive. :)
