Bosch vacuum cleaner not fit for purpose

Hi,
My dad bought me a Bosch vacuum cleaner, just before Christmas as a Christmas present.
We tried it a few times and it is terrible. It doesn't pick up simple small bits from carpet. It's a bit better on hard floors but not much.
We told my dad we'd like to return it and get something else. He delayed for a little while, and so when we finally went this past weekend, they said that we would need to contact Bosch instead as it was out of the 30 days.
I've just phoned them and they have said that they can arrange an engineer to visit, but that Argos should refund it under Consumer Rights Act 2015.
I'd prefer that, as I don't think there is anything wrong with it, it's just not very good.
I'm an anxious person, so I want to make sure I have my facts straight if I do go back into Argos!
Can anyone advise who is correct and how I should approach this?
Thanks!

If it was bought from Argos, then Bosch are quite correct, any refund would have to come from Argos. However the problem you have spotted, it probably isn't faulty and so getting Argos to refund 3 months later is going to be next to impossible. On top of that you have no consumer rights with Argos, as you didn't buy it, your dad would have to make the request.2

Yeah, I think the question here is going to come down to whether there is something actually wrong with it or its just a bit rubbish. What model is it?

Hmm...that model seems to get decent reviews for pickup etc although I see some reviews online saying that it's rubbish so I wonder if they do sometimes have a bad one.
It has 2 power settings - have you tried it on the high setting/turbo mode? Most battery powered vacs are crap on the standard setting because it's only there so they can quote a long run time on the battery. The turbo mode is actually what's used for cleaning.
The other thing to check is that the bin isn't full and there's no blockages as it does have a fairly tiny dustbin.0 -
Even if it is not fit for purpose, you have no automatic right to a refund 90 days or more after purchase. Why wait so long? The retailer can repair, refund or replace, it's their choice. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Try it on the high power setting. Our Shark one is rubbish on the "regular" setting which is clearly only there so they can claim it will run for X minutes on the battery!
(I also have a corded Shark vacuum which is amazing as we have 2 dogs and I hate hairy carpets- I don't rate cordless vacuums at all!).
If it doesn't work on the high powered setting then it might be faulty.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

I've just phoned Bosch again and they were adamant that you have 6 years under the Consumer Rights Act so Argos should honour it?
I said I don't want to have to keep arguing with them so I'd just like to book the engineer visit.
She started going through the questions and said that it sounded like it was jammed and for me to check if it was. I said I'd had a look and couldn't see anything but wasn't comfortable digging around in case I break it.
She said that's fine, but if the engineer comes and it's something I should have found, I could be charged for the visit!
What should I do? I'm tempted just to give it back to my dad and get a new one.0
