Tax Refunds for Parents with children born between 1985 and 2003!

  • The original post is talking about childrens tax credit (CTC) which was given in the form of extra personal allowances to those with children up until the tax year 2002-03. You claim the relief by completing 11CTC (or sending an amendment to your SA return if you filed one). Only the Welsh version of the form is available online, so to claim you'd need to contact HMRC and ask them to issue the form.

Unfortunately, a lot of HMRC staff who have joined the organisation since 2003 don't know about CTC, and instead confuse all enquires about it with the current system of tax credits, hence why I advised don't let them refer you to the tax credit office.

what i was trying to imply....but unfortunately it got taken the wrong way....is that i have helped a number of people claim their child tax credits back. So i have an idea of who is and isn't eligible. That was the help i was trying to provide by telling people who is eligible and who isn't.
It is rather disheartning to read the comments from other people who have misunderstood what i was trying to say when i was simply trying to advise people of a deadline by which they need to have claimed. I should have stuck to being just a reader as i have been for most of my time and kept my advice to myself and those who i have already helped. I'll leave it down to more experienced posters to post in the future.

  • First off it's not a benefit entitlement. Second, tigtag provided you with the link to answer your question (a), and question (b) is answered earlier in this thread. I think an apology is in order.

Now that's something you're not going to read very often? Almost tops this other little gem higher in the thread :
