private parking company issued a forged document

Hi
I requested proof of date of postage from a private parking firm as the letter was received well after the contravention date, and we had missed the discount period. They assured me they would send one. Time passed and I chased. Eventually they provided a "certificate of postage" from their mailing company. I contacted the mailing company who informed me that it was forged, and its not something they issue. I wrote to the private parking firm advising that they had provided a forged document to me; I requested a response on the forged document and confirmation that they would send the correct one. No response. I chased. No response.
3 weeks after first receiving the original parking letter, today I receive a debt collection letter.
I am quite scared the debt collection company have my details. I would like to report them to the IPC for providing forged documents and ignoring my subsequent emails. The debt collection company are a part of BPA.
Any advice? I have an email from the mailing company confirming that they do not issue "certificates of posting". This should be enough to prove the parking company has issued a forged document.
Thank you.

Which PPC? Reporting them to the IPC will be a waste of your time. The IPC are there to look after its members interests, not yours.

You say you requested "proof" of postage from the PPC but you then state that you received the letter, just well after the posting date. Ergo, you have proof of posting.

I doubt you'll get anywhere with this line of attack. Maybe, just maybe, if it ever got to court in a claim, this alleged "certificate of postage" from their mailing company could be of some use. However, do you have it in writing from "their mailing company" that this document is a "forgery" or that it is just not a document they would issue?

Regarding the debt collector letter, if you've read, re-read and read again the Newbies/FAQ thread near the top of this forum you would already know that you ignore ALL such letters and demands. The only thing you need to respond to is either a LoC or an actual Claim.
  • I received the letter 13 days after they claimed they posted it. It definitely arrived on day 13 (a Thursday) as my husband was home. I was away with work until Friday so it was day 16 when I finally sat down to open my mail and do a bit of admin on a Sunday evening. I only wanted to get them to extend the 14 day discount period...and then they sent a forged certificate. The mailing company emailed me to confirm it was not issued by them (the PPC obviously copied their letterhead) so I have this in writing. I really feel like a company shouldn't be allowed to get away with sending forged documents.

Let's try that one more time.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

You do know that you are dealing with a bunch of scammers, so no surprises there. Forget about the discount period. That is purely to get the gullible victims to pay into their scam.

With well over 20,000 private parking PCNs issued every day and we only get to see a tiny fraction of the victims on here, they are raking it in because most victims, like yourselves, think that by paying the discounted price they are somehow "saving" themselves money. No, they aren't. They are funding one of the biggest scams ever.

You may have caught the PPC out by getting them to send you a forged certificate of posting but in the scheme of things, it is not the crime of the century and unless it is used by them as evidence before a judge, it is not likely to get you far. Hopefully, one of the legal experts will be along to clarify.

The stage you appear to be at right now, is explained in the Newbies/FAQ thread which you have been advised to study. If you are getting debt collector letters, it usually means that you have exhausted the appeals process.

Expect final reminders and lots of threatening debt collection letters. If you have studied the Newbies/FAQ thread, you will know that you can safely ignore all of them as they are toothless and rely on their more gullible victims to poop their pants at the threat of a CCJ and pay the now extortionate  price of c£170.

The only thing you have to respond to for now is if you receive an LoC or an actual Claim. Once you get one of those, you refer back to the Newbies/FAQ thread, second post, which deals with the exact steps you need to take. The PPC has up to 6 years to file a Claim from the date of the parking event.

Hi, I was reluctant to give the name in case they are on here and can identify the situation.

What advantage do you think they would gain, assuming they had the staff, time and resources to spend on here searching for anything that may identify someone dealing with their scam? As mentioned by @Grizebeck, it is irrelevant.

If you hold the evidence that they have tried to forge a document, then there is little they can now do about it except to send their "men in black" to rifle through your drawers to try and destroy it. Sorry, that last bit was tongue in cheek.

You hold the evidence and you have asked for assistance here. Please answer the questions.
