Agree this was unlikely to be a real TV licensing agent, and even if it was he was acting criminally in his behaviour. They have no right to abuse you in that way and no right to enter your house without a court warrant.

Next time it happens, deffo call 999 and put the phone near the door so they can hear what is going on.They'll come straight round, esp as you have young kids in the house who could be at risk.

  • OMG how terrible it must have been for you please please dial 999 if he comes back wishing you and your children a happy C hristmas

  • I agree call the police and tell them you are afraid the guy is casing you. Let them know that it is their responsibility to do a check of your neighbourhood for the next few days and make sure it is ok. If the nutta ever comes back call the police do not argue or answer him at all this only adds fuel to these nuttas. I would have been so upset too. Missing your tv licence even if you have, should not mean someone can treat you like this. Let us know what the police say to you. Be firm and tell them you want someone to look in on your neighbourhood in the next little while, better to be safe than sorry. Taffy
  • I'll probably get moaned at for this but I have a baseball bat propped up by the front door just in case I get people like this a$$hole knocking on my door shouting the odds at me, I just pick it up & smile at them, it's enough to make them stop & think.

    Hi we are always skint,

I just wondered how things are, did you find out if he was a tv licence guy and did you complain??

  • We did have a pretty aggressive interaction with a tv licencing guy so I wouldn't dismiss out of hand that this is a possibility. I'd check with them first of all, surely they'd know if they had people in the area.

But whoever he is I'd let the police know about him.

    Hope you're okay now...
  • I have told my wife that if while i am out she gets any problems with people trying to get in unless they are genuine(bailiffs etc for previous occupier) if they do not provide their id to her then she throws boiling water over them without hesitation. You should do the same thing but. I would report this to the local police and ask for a crime ref number. Then if the aborted reject comes back do a triple nine call and quote the reference number given to you. If you were within my are i would come round and make freinds with this bloke and then show him how to speak to a lady !!!!!

  • ... provide their id to her then she throws boiling water over them without hesitation.

Do you have pan always on the boil just behind the front door for just such an eventuality?

Or is the plan to invite them in for a cuppa and then throw the water over them once it has boiled?

Alternatively, if she has answered the door and the guy has forced his way in, does she run into the kitchen, pop the kettle on, then run around the house in a Benny Hill stylee with the bloke chasing her until the water has boiled sufficiently to allow her to throw it over him?

Perhaps you should instead install a drawbridge and portcullis and keep boiling oil on standby? You could also board up your windows until there is just a slit in them to fire arrows. No, I'm just getting silly now aren't I?
