It would put me off and I wouldn't proceed. I have nothing against dogs, but if I come away from a viewing thinking "God, are those dogs next door going to be barking constantly?" I just wouldn't bother.

Had a similar situation when I went to view a house recently - pulled up outside the property to see two would-be neighbours gesticulating angrily at each other over a parking space. Might have been nothing but it put me off and personally can't be bothered with the worry.

It depends on what is causing the dogs to bark and if you can hear the dogs inside the house.  If it is constant (and I mean constant) barking which can be heard inside the house then I would have strong doubts.  If its because someone has come to the front door and the barking is stopped quickly by the owners then I would proceed.

I have two large dogs, one of which is a rescue.  They bark when someone comes to the front door, when the postman / delivery van pulls up (they know the sounds of the vehicles) and if a dog they hate walks past.  They can be heard from outside if you are standing close to the house but its muffled.  I've checked with the neighbours and they can't hear them.

The other things to consider is how close your gardens are, how high are the fences, are they going to bark when you go into your garden and also the poo/wee smells.  I have a neighbour who has fake grass and two small dogs, the smell during summer just walking past their garden...well, its gross, I hate to think what it would be like to live next to it.

No, unless you're a big fan of dogs, in which case it wouldn't wind you up as much.
  • I think it would be a no from me too and I have a dog myself!
It infuriates me when our neighbours, many of whom have dogs, just let them bark and bark and bark, it is incredibly annoying because of course it's noisy and no-one wants that in their own home but it also upsets our dog which I do not like

    Not a chance.

No wonder the house is up for sale!
  • No, although people buy houses all the time that have gardens next to each other with dogs barking in the garden. So it's kind of luck of the draw.

Ask the vendor why are they selling?  Has it got anything to do with the dogs next door.

You have to feel sorry for the vendor, suffering the noise and probably hindering the house sale.

But...... you could forego this house in favour of one with quiet neighbours, then said neighbours get a couple of dogs/decide to learn to play the drums/get a hot tub.
That's a risk anywhere, renting as well as buying.  But deliberately buying somewhere with a known noise nuisance? - absolutely no way.  At least, not without also buying a shotgun and a shovel.

    Hi

I was thinnking about this thread having contributed to it yesterday and had a quick skim today/look

The vasty majority as saying no and as I said, even owners of dogs would not want to move next door to loud dogs.

Therefore, with respect, what is the point of this thread? I'm honestly confused.

OMHO, people will consider moving if new neibours moved in next door with loud dogs but to move to a property where one was aware of loud dogs, not sure who would move into that

    Thanks
