Wouldn’t put me off at all.  They would not be barking all day and night, if they were there are actions you can take.  If they are rescue dogs they will possibly be anxious dogs but if someone has passed the criteria and gone to the expense of getting rescue dogs then I’d assume they must be interested in them and their behaviour.   I’d get to know the neighbour, get to know their dogs and at least the dogs will stop barking when it’s someone they know.

It would depend on the dogs for me really and also how the neighbour handles them when they do bark. My dog will bark if someone comes to the door, or if she hears dogs in nearby gardens barking. She is mega friendly though and barks because she wants to go and make a fuss over people at the door or play with the other dogs.

If she is in the garden and starts barking, I call her in or go out to her and she stops. If she barks when someone is at the door, she stops when I answer it ( she is quite a handy doorbell )

    No I wouldn't.
Even if they got used to you and you no longer triggered a reaction, potentially there will always be something /someone else that will.

I wouldn't be able to live there.  Some people have dogs instead of burgular alarms and neglect their basic needs.

Viewing on a property this week and happened to engage with the neighbours who has 2 very loud regular barking rescue dogs.

Would you buy the attached house knowing this? Added a lot of doubt to our plans.
No way. Even if it's not constant, it soon starts to get to you. You end up on edge all the time because you never know when they are going to start up.

Current owner needs to get it sorted out. Maybe they are moving because they can't stand it.

Only if you and anyone else in the family are hard of hearing or not bothered by noise, and you don’t want to enjoy your garden.

I live in an upstairs terraced flat.  The downstairs next door neighbours had a large dog that would bark in the garden at 6.45am when they let it out, then at various points throughout the day when they would leave it in the garden.   It was horrendous!

I was constantly on edge because it was unpredictable and inescapable since I could hear it whatever room I was in.   Also it would run along the fence barking whenever I went in my own garden.

When the owners moved out unexpectedly one day, it was one of the happiest days of my life!   Because I thought I was stuck with it long term and it really did ruin living here.

Depending on your sensitivities you might be better looking for another property, OP!
  • Rescue dogs - does this mean that the neighbours regularly foster rescue dogs? If not, and the owners are nice (and looks after the dogs and picking the poo up, etc.!), I wouldn't mind too much. Worse case they are great at scaring away burglars!

Also what if you move to a street having no barking dogs and 1 year later, you get a new neighbour with 5 loud dogs?

Is the house detached, semi-detached, terraced or flats? Joining walls will make the noise louder.
How loud was it when you were visiting?
Are you sensitive to noise / a light sleeper?
Will you be home a lot (working from home) or always out of the house?
Do you have a partner/kids who would also live there?
    Can you afford other options?
