But like I said above Reflect-8 Free can still be downloaded from 3rd party software sites, (google it), you just can't get it direct from Macrium anymore as they now only do a 30 day trial of the paid for versions.
So, is (the installer for) Macrium  v8.0.7167 the last (non-trial) freebie version ?  TIA

The one on this laptop is 8.0.7279 and says 'No updates available' when I check.
On another laptop I just downloaded an installer from a site that says it has  v8.1.7401, but that also installed 8.0.7279.
It did install the free version and not a trial.
(I think I'll uninstall that one now and put a trial on there, just to see what it does when the trial runs out).

I have just bought a new SSD to replace an existing drive that CrystalDiskInfo says is failing but when I try to clone to the SSD it gets error 9 which appears to be because there are bad sectors on my old hard drive, any ideas how to get round this please?

EDIT: The actual error is 'Clone failed - Error 9 - Read failed - 23 - Data error (cyclic redundancy check'

There is obviously a read error somewhere. Maybe you should try copying the files off the old drive (to a USB stick?) and you will then see which has the error, which will hopefully be something replaceable from elsewhere, or not important.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid a full windows re-install but think I will have to do that after I have backed up what I need.

CLonezilla  should have a parameter to force it to carry on when it finds bad sectors.  Check the documentation.

Note that this does not mean the clone will be successful, and may even significantly increase the amount of time the clone takes - if it ever ends.

Try chkdsk on your "bad" drive as below....

Open Command Prompt by pressing Windows key + R, input cmd, and hit Enter. Be sure to run it as administrator. Following are a couple of commands that you may need.

    • chkdsk. chkdsk displays only the status of volume and does not fix any errors.

    • chkdsk d: /f. This will check and fix errors that it found on d: volume. You can replace d with another drive letter.

    See what it finds.
