Which is the best utility to clone a 500 gig drive to a 2 tb drive?

When I've cloned a drive before, I've used drives of the same size...

I've a 500gig C drive with a recovery partition that I need to clone to a 2 tb drive. Both are M.2 NVMe drives.

I know I really should perform a clean install but I've a number of Audio/Video packages installed and I've spent all weekend trying to find their install reg codes and can't find them. We moved house 6 months back and I have no idea where all the info sheets have end up!

Could anyone suggest the best software to use?

Thanks

First question I'm going to ask is why do you have multiple A/V (I presume anti-virus) packages installed?  You do realise all the real time protections they offer will just fight with each other?  The one built into Windows 10 (and 11) is more than capable.

Re: the cloning, there are a few pieces of software listed here:

The overhead of running multiple Anti-Virus is probably higher than most viruses are.

    What OS are you running?

    Av = audio visual?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Sorry, my bad. By a/v I was meaning Audio/Video packages, not anti virus.  I've corrected the op.

Cloning apps will clone to a larger drive with no problem.
In fact most will even clone to a smaller drive as long as the data will fit.
I've cloned a 1TB HDD to a 500GB SSD with no problem, there was less than 500GB used on the HDD of course.
You say that you have cloned drives before so use whichever cloning app you are familiar with.
Alternatively - the newly purchased 2 TB drive probably came with a software link somewhere in the invoice/documentation to a dedicated variant of a cloning app to use.
(eg. Crucial SSDs usually/often come with a link to a variant of Aomei specifically for cloning to Cruicial SSDs).

Macrium is good but the free version has been discontinued. Ive just used Aomei backupper to clone & it worked well + it has a free version.
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!
  • I think Macrium Reflect is still free but its now a free 30 day trial
