Slinky said:I topped the batteries up overnight as I'm always doing at the moment, only to be exporting today at a lower rate when the sun came out. We've got some sun forecast tomorrow, but I can't risk relying on it fill the batteries tomorrow when there are such expensive rates if we haven't got enough stored.

I just screenshotted this before refreshing the predictor with the new forecast data.
There really is an almighty gulf there between the predictions and the actual!
(And let's not talk about the fact that for some reason the predictor tops out at 80p!)🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The recent volatility is somewhat vindicating my decision to move to Octopus Go, although there is not much in it.
At the moment I'm tracking at a few pounds of total savings by switching to Octopus Go at the first big spike in December. Arguably within the margin of error of shifting consumption around so it has not made that much difference, but it hasn't been worse either, so I will probably stay on Go until I see 2-3 straight weeks where Go is significantly in the red versus Agile for me.0 -

We looked at that as an option, but decided the £500 cost would buy a lot of gas. I guess the sums are different when gas isn't an option.Well I'm glad I topped up to 100% overnight as it's distinctly gloomy here today. We've generated a whole 0.7kWh so far. We're holding steady at 88% charge at the moment.

Yes, I have an Eddi. It made sense to install it as the same time as the solar, and means I don't use the boiler for hot water during the summer (burning oil smells, and the fact that the chimney is below the ridge means fumes drop into the garden). As I have a very small oil tank, flexibility was a priority when thinking about solar - I already had electric towel rails when I moved in, and adding oil-filled radiators means that when prices are low (and/or the oil tank is looking low) I have the option to use electric heat as well as the multi-fuel stove (also a relatively expensive option, but again, it's about flexibility).
Happily the oil tank has been refilled, so until Agile prices drop considerably, the electric heating will remain off. I'm generating 0.3kw (a total of 1.9kWh so far), so the battery is still above 90% at the moment. Hopefully there'll be enough daylight to keep it there for a few more hours.1 -
I see on another thread there's likely to be a savings session between 5-6pm tonight. Not sure if we'll take part in that one given the high rates today. Will see what state the batteries are in nearer the time.

No email here yet. But I'm working then, so house will be in it's normal state of darkness and silence! The only way I can reduce below my normal usage at this point is to actively export. As tomorrow's forecast is good, I'm tempted to shift a small amount from the batteries, but will think about it.1
