Advisory for exhaust

They do them at Kwik fit but can’t get one before mot date will have a look at the others you mention.
Took a video but don’t think I can upload a video only photo.
When I covered the outlet pipe, could only see/hear the leak coming from the drain hole0 -

There's a good chance it'll only be an advisory again. If it's got worse and turns out to be a failure, then if it's only the back box it's not the end of the world if it needs to be replaced. Exhausts are, after all, wear & tear items.
If the exhaust is leaking gas, it should be a fail. That was kind of what I was alluding to. If it's meant to be there (as I said, I've never heard of such a thing, but I'm happy to accept that it may well be a design feature) then obviously it won't be the cause of the leak - there must be a small leak somewhere else. But a very small leak may be classed as an advisory rather than a fail as long as it falls within the prescribed parameters.

It's meant to be there.
Lots of manufacturers now fit drains in the silencers as condensation in there is acidic so rots the boxes out from the inside as that end of the system does quite get hot enough to evaporate it all away.

It's not unheard of for cars to get advisories and even fails for other parts the MOT centre sells.
If the tester doesn't know it's meant to be there I would take it somewhere else for a test.

Same thing happened to me at my last MOT. They said the exhaust is fine, but we've put an advisory on a small leak just in case you have any emissions problems in the future so you have a clue.1

Excellent stuff. If they do find a problem, ask them to show you, they often do that without asking at the place we use for monior stuff on the older merc
Having read your thread last night and responded, I was thinking back to the old days when blowing/broken exhausts people having them fixed was routine and not happening these days. I read that exhausts are now better built and often last the life time of a car. I suspect the cat converter can still go
Good luck - by the way, if it needs doing/repalcing, call around for price unless you are comfoy with Halfords. (you could ask for prices from the others before you take the car but may be waster of your time if not required)
Good luck0 -

I fairness to Halfords and other fast fit outifits inc main dealers, your comments are unfair.
It is always correct to be alert and some will try to defraud you as that is what it is.
However, in recent years, we have used halfords, same depot and they are good. Possibly becuse they know
I'm pretty hot o stuff but their branch reviews are really good

Just come back from exhaust check ,
guy at garage asked me what I’ve brought it in for cause there’s nowt wrong with it.
So last years advisory followed by an offer to “fix” it for £250 was basically an attempted con.2
